I'm posting this on behalf of my brother, an eldar vet who has recently invested in a pure GK army. We used this list twice today, once against my mechanised vanilla marines and the other against my deathwing.
If I recall:
Brother captain Stern with 5 man terminator retinue, one psycannon
5 terminators with psycannon
2x 8 man power armoured GK, each with one psycannon
2x TLLC/ML Dread
He beat my vanilla, with most of his termies left intact. The DW game was mostly fought to a standstill, both of us had remenants of units and one functional dread left at the end.
Being new to GK, my bro wants to know if this is a good set up to use as a take on anyone list. He's considering what to buy next. As one of the dreads was borrowed, I think that's next, then maybe more PAGK or a LRC.
Comments? I'll pass on any advice.
I would never use that many GKT in a 1500 point game. He should take them out and add another squad of PAGK.
Definitely buy another dread if he only has one, and arm it with an Assault cannon and DCCW. Also, Brother Captain Stern only really has his advantage against Chaos. I would switch him out for a regular Grandmaster..
Et imperator Invocato Diabolus Daemonica Exorcist!
If the termies work, them keep em. If he is plannning of using that many Terminators tell him to consider Holocaust for the endless waves of enemies. It seems pretty solid, he could;
Keep both dreads, remove the psycannons from the troop grey knights if those squads are walking seeing how it would take an another 6' for the psycannon the fire with the rest of the storm bolters. Drop Brother Captain Stern and use him as a Grand Master, then maybe you could equip the GM with a Psycannon.
Yes, I would make sure he has two dreads of his own, and then just load up on a lot more Grey Knights. The standard PAGK or FAGK is the best unit we have.
I like to have one shooty squad+ 2 Psycannons and an elite Inquisitor+Psycannon, then one squad of 10 (at least one squad) of plain Jane troops that march forward and rip off 20 Stormbolter shots as they head towards the enemy.
After that, he could look at Assassins, a Landraider Crusader and even more Grey Knights.
