hey, im trying to build a space wolf army. ive decided to use dreadnoughts for my long-range fire support, cause they are more manuverable and more useful than tanks. i think i also might incorparate a LRE for fluff reasons, but im not decided on any other choices. im looking for a rele good army at CC, with some decent fire support from the dreads. any suggestions, folks?
Well its best if you made a list of your own first and post it here. This would make it a lot easier for anyone to help.
Anyway I suggest having plenty of blood claws in squads of ten - maybe drop podded in? (don't forget the powerfist on the sergeant) Otherwise just go for what you feel is best. You've said it yourself, you want some fire support from dreads - add them.
A billion chinese can't be wrong - eat rice.
I like the idea of using the Dreads for your heavy support. If you do it right (especially with a 2000 pt. list) you can get 4 of em in there. One in HQ, and 3 more in your elite. I would suggest you giving them all the missile launcher upgrade, and at least a few the twin-linked lascannons; I know from experience how devastating they can be. The reason for the missile launcher upgrade is because ive found out my dreads don’t ever even get into combat. Wolves are the best cc space marine army in the game. Blood claws on the charge, with their cheap upgraded special weapons are devastating. It took me along time to figure out exactly what the role my grey hunters play since the heaviest gun they can carry is the meltagun. However, with their true grit rule it’s nice to be able to have a squad that can hold their boltguns and still get an additional attack in cc. So what ive done is put them in a razorback, a squad of 6 of course, 5 with boltguns, and one with a meltagun. The razorback upgraded twin-linked lascannon, and you have urself a very naughty unit that your enemy has to take notice of. However you deal with em is up to you, just my suggestion. Fast attack you have to pick a squad of blood claws on bikes or jump packs, and try either putting ur hq's on bikes or in the rhinos with ur troops. GOOD LUCK and may the emperor be with you.
Consider drop pods for your dreds, especially if you are considering taking 4.
Drop pod 2 onto either flank half way up the field and foot slog the other 2 up. Take your GH up with your 2 foot slogging Dred's and put your bc's in rhino's.
Don't forget your wolf scouts, tool them up with meltaguns, plasma pistols and power weapons and get them operating behind enemy lines.
LRE with 4 dreds on the field this won't be too much of a fire magent, so get it into a good position and open fire.
Space Wolves are badasses that operate just barely within the rules.
13th Co. didn't even know there were rules applying to how badass they could be.
... and Daemonhunters make it three - now just need a spare room to store it all!!!
It is better if you come up with a list yourself and let us fill in spare points and edit stuff than having us (the forum members) make you up a total list. It take alot of thinking an calculating into making a list. And if you want people to help, you are bet of giving them reputation (by the star button in their post) and giving them a draught to work on.
BUT, I will give you a draught, since it's way over by bed-time I will not go in total depht.Originally Posted by WulfbanesJust remember, everything is up to you. hey guys thanx for all your help, especially wulfbanes. i would make an army list right now , but i seem to have lost my space wolves codex, so i cant. as soon as i can i will get it to you all.
this may be more toward a new topic other than helping you make your list, but land speeders? are they worth it? i mean they can be takin down by anything, i mean the 10 armour doesnt erally do anything at all. Why not go with the same point cost attack bikes, plus you get a twin-linked bolt gun on top of things...
Land speeders are good not only because they can carry a heavy weapon for either tank-hunting or troop-killing (whatever your list lacks), but also, they are the only models available to space marines that can IGNORE terrain effects and move 24" to capture an objective (VERY handy on the last turn if you choose to hide the speeder for the game...a worthy tactic let me assure you).
