    2000pts Deathwing - Club Gaming

Hi guys, I don't have my Codex with me as I'm away from home but I want to order my models today. Can someone check my list and my maths and offer any advice?

*** All Models are STUBBORN ***

    HQ

Codicier, TA, SB, FW, FOTD 140pts

    COMMAND SQUAD

    1 SGT, TA, SB, PW
    1 TERMINATOR, SB, PF
    2 TERMINATORS AC, CF
    DROP POD

    ***HQ HAVE FURIOUS CHARGE***

    HQ TOTAL 425pts
    =============================
    TROOPS (x2)

    1 SGT, TA, SB PW
    2 TERMINATORS, SB, PF
    2 TERMINATORS, AC, CF

    TROOPS TOTAL 550pts
    =============================
    ELITES

1 VEN DREAD, TLLC, ML, XA ***TANK HUNTER***
1 DREAD, AC, DCCW&SB, XA, DROP POD

    ELITES TOTAL 310pts
    =============================
    FAST ATTACK (x2)

    1 SGT, TA, SB PW
    2 TERMINATORS, SB, PF
    2 TERMINATORS, SB, CML, PF

    ***FAST ATTACK ARE TANK HUNTERS***

    FAST ATTACK TOTAL 580pts
    =============================

    TOTAL POINTS 1865pts
    TERMINATORS: 24
    CHARACTERS: 1
    DREADS: 2

What should I spend the extra points on? I could make 3 squads up to 6 Terms, Buy 3 Drop pods, Buy a Grand Master (possibly if i removed some CF) or Buy more powers for the Librarian or Buy an extra Dread.

TACTIC is to drop in the Command Squad for the old FOTD routine and drop in the AC Dread to support or be a distraction. The remaining Dread and 4 squads will foot slog.

    Thanks in advance all.

A decidedly risky tactic but not unheard of, it works better against some armies than others (those that dont run), most people just teleport the squad in, rather than burn more points on drop pods but I suppose it givs you some level of security, so fine.

No the ven is fine but the dreads should provide ranged AT, in 2000 points, that should be at least 2 dreads with TL las and ML

No, this is more reminiscant of 3rd ed DW, with the changes to Auto cannon rules, dreads are a more efficient way of getting ranged firepower, use the termies for close fire support, i.e. take autocannons as much as possible.

Accordingly, as you reach 2000 points I would look for:

    HQ+Command squad (as yoiu have)
2 dreads with TL LC and ML (you have one - see those extra points?)
    rest is squads with ACs

Arguably this is a little low on ranged firepower (2 dreads is more a 1500 point option) so having one squad with Cyclones isnt bad, so switch one of those FA choices to match your troop choice, and you can keep the third dread as it is configured above (your non-ven dread)

As an alternative and to save you some points the HQ I use is a libby with Fury of the Ancients, I dont deep strike the command squad, which means more shooting plus FOTA allows ranged attacks beyond 24 inches and can be superb against mob armies
Everything you have been told is a lie!

Thanks for the sound advice. I will order enough termies to replace the second squad of CML with AC so that I can experiment both options. I'm also going to drop a few chain fists so that I have enough spare points for a 3rd Dread with TLLC/ML.

Thanks also for the Libby Powers tip - something else I will experiment with

I'll be proxying the Drop Pods for a while so I will try both options for the command squad too:

    In summary then:

    HQ - 425 pts
    Librarian with FOTD
1 Sgt with SB and PW
1 Term with SB and PF
2 Terms with AC and CF
    Furious Charge
    Drop Pod

Elites - Approx 450pts? (anyone with a codex for the 2nd dread cost?)
1 Ven Dread, TLLC, ML, XA, Tank Hunter
    1 Dread, TLLC, ML
1 Dread, AC, DCCW&SB, XA, Drop Pod

    Troops (x2) 550pts
    1 Sgt with SB&PW
2 Terms with SB and PF
2 Terms with AC and PF

    Fast Attack 565pts
    1 Sgt with SB&PW
    2 Terms with SB&PF
    2 Terms with CML&SB

    1 Sgt with SB&PW
2 Terms with SB and PF
2 Terms with AC and PF

    Total 1990pts (ish?)

I eventually intend to go up to 3000pts with either a chaplain and lightning claws or a GM with an Assault squad - all your advice about Land Raiders has been noted! So 3000pts may just end up with more Terms - will see how it goes!

That is it, you got it,

For moving to 3000 points, the worry with the LRC/Chappy and assault squad has always been it is a horrific investment in points, losing it, which may happen in one shot, wastes those points (admited not all the termies will get wiped out but if your termie assault squad has to foot slog for 30 inches you are not gonna achieve much and you are unlikely to be the one charging)

However, the larger the army, the smaller proportion this investment represents, i.e the above is around 600 points, in 1000 points, its loss is catastrophic, it is 60% of your army, however in 3000 points it only represents 20%, the risk is therefore much less (not the chance of its getting shot but the impact) This makes it sound playable, I still dont think it is for the reason that it would be the only tank inyour army, every lascannon/ bright lance/ dark lance/ rail gun / etc in your opponents army will be pointing at it, and in 3000 points that pretty much assures it instant demise.

BUT (just to keep you swinging backwards and forwards) this in its self has a large impact, it draws lethal heavy weapons fire away from your dreads and termies and buys you time to hit him very hard.

Sooo whilst I mayself considered it and actually may still if I up my list to 2500, I think this would predominantly be be for fluff and to paint an LRC that looks cool, effecs wise it has pros and cons, I think the power gamer, intent on a victory would ommit it, the kid, impressed with its power would stick it in, you pay your money and take your chance

Id field only 1 dreadnought, the venerable, trade the other two, for more terminators, model count is your highest priorety.

    Good luck, otherwise looks good.

Honestly, it looks good to me. Try to put all your shooty units on one side of the table. Deep strike the other units on the same side and work your way accross his army from one side to the other.

Since you are all tank hunting, he should put up some sort of tank for heavy support. Unless he deploys it in the middle, deploy your stuff on that side.

2000 pts is reasonable for a land raider... not that you should field one. I mean that your opponents might use 'em so it will work more to your advantage if you can blow that up first.

I see you play dark angels. There is a clan dedicated to them in the clubs and clans section. Be sure to check us out

http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...circle-89.html (Order of the White Sword Inner Circle.)

YOu've only got 20 termies I might be tempted to drop some of those dreads for a higher model count.
