[1700] Soviet Tau Human Auxiliary Army; for fun list

This list was done up to be a compliment to a Tau force that I have. It's going to cost a fortune to build due to the fact that I want to model each guardsman like the Tau Human Auxiliary. It's more or less a pipe dream and just want some oppinions on the list it'self. It's using the regular old Imperial Guard codex and no fancy-shamcy made up rules. I was orriginaly going to go with 50 conscripts but ran out of points.

For the record: Yes, those are Mortar Support Squads.

There once was a Lord named Vlad,
Who's fighting skillz really were mad.
    He killed and he maimed,
He spilled blood in Khorne's name.
And the fact that he's legal makes me glad

Surely a comissar wouldn't join with the Tau, the whole point of their presence is to stop things like that happening isn't it? but i suppose if your just going to use basic guard rules you don't really need to worry about fluff if you don't want to, looks a nice enough list though. Maybe you might want to think about varying the weapons a little in basic squads, i know the mortars are nice for taking out masses of troops BUT it can be a pain to guess ranges, and theres always the scatter rolls to think of... although it's great when they all hit so funny to sit behind a hill and level squad after squad

erm..... i may be wrong, but i thouht in the new rules you don't have to guess ranges any more, if there out of sight you scatter 2d6 but apart from that you just place your shots.

1: conscripts don't get carapace armour (they are not listed under standard guard infantry at the beginings of the doctrines list).

2: why carapace armour? it's hideously expensive!! i'd drop it unless its a fluff thing (it does kinda make sense with tau i suppose)

3: Nice command squad, but why not throw in a nice flag to wave about?? (you can give it the hammer and sickle treatment, and it's very soviet)

4: i like the heavy bolters, and mortars, it's all good there.

I suppose my only major problem is the lack of men, allthough i guess thats inevitable with carapace armour. Oh, and remember that you don't get the close order drill +1ld when using the officers leadership through vox casters.

To add to crispin the problem with carapace armour is that you have to give it all your "guard infantry" squads so you have to give it to your mortar squads too but you can't give them to conscripts.

Also to ditto Crispins point you only get the Officers LD score or the Close Order bonus. you don't get both.

Also thats 260 points blown on Carapace armo (counting the two mortar squads-the conscripts)....nearly 20% of your points blown on that....I'd actually advise to go camoline if you wanted the better saves and you played with lots of cover.

I also think you miss counted the points on the Commie...PW+Carapace+Trademarke should equal +40 points. I think...

well, since it's a just for fun thing, I guess there's really no point in tearing this list apart...

But I would think that Tau wouldn't been keen to conscripts, that being an egregious waste of life and all. I should think a Tau auxiliary army would lean more in the direction of grenadiers then conscripts.

Commissars are also very... distinctively guard. I don't see shas'whatevers standing behind their troops with a pulse pistol pointed at their heads.

A lot of other nitpicking things come to mind, but I don't really feel like delving into it all as I get the impression this isn't a serious list.

I've actualy noticed that "Warrior Weapons" has to be purchased for the whole army. So I decided to drop it, the Commissar, and the Consrips. Here's an updated list. And yes, Carapace Armor is there because they would have Tau armor.

WEll I ahve no comment on the army list but I ahve made the model that are your "pipe dream" Its not as hard you think. Just grab a box of fire warriors and Cadians. Then mix and match as well as convert some cool looking weapons. Only tough part is green stuffing human shoes onto the Tau feet. When your done you have 32 kickass models that will surly turn heads at the next torney. But ahve a little history behind them so you can fluff your way though any pain in the arse oppentents that say they are illegal
