Welcome to Librarium Online!
Now, I ahve been doing some thinking, and was wondering if it was possible to make an Imperial Guard army designed to take the fight to the enemy. I think it IS possible, and here is what I have come up with, and would like your oppinions on the list and whether it would work or not.
Rough Rider Squadrons
Close Order Drill
Command Squad: Heroic Senior Officer w/ Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon & Iron Discipline. 3 Guardsmen w/ 3 Laspistols & CCWs. Veteran w/ Laspistol, CCW & Company Standard.
Fire Support Squad 1: 6 Guardsmen w/ 3 Lasguns & 3 Autocannons.
Commissar 1: Laspistol & Power Fist.
Commissar 2: Laspistol & Power Weapon.
Infantry Platoon 1
Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Bolter & Iron Discipline. 4 Guardsmen w/ 3 Lasguns & 1 Lascannon.
Infantry Squad 1: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Lascannon.
Infantry Squad 2: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Lascannon.
Infantry Platoon 2
Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Laspistol, Power Weapon, Honorifica Imperialis & Iron Discipline. 4 Guardsmen w/ 4 Flamers.
Infantry Squad 1: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Grenade Launcher.
Infantry Squad 2: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Grenade Launcher.
Infantry Squad 3: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Grenade Launcher.
Infantry Squad 4: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Grenade Launcher.
Infantry Squad 5: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Grenade Launcher.
Rough Rider Squadron 1: Veteran Sergeant w/ Laspistol, Meltabombs & Hunting Lance. 7 Rough Riders w/ 7 Laspistols & 7 Hunting Lances.
Rough Rider Squadron 2: Veteran Sergeant w/ Laspistol, Meltabombs & Hunting Lance. 7 Rough Riders w/ 7 Laspistols & 7 Hunting Lances.
Leman Russ Demolisher 1: Demolisher Cannon, Hull Heavy Bolter, Sponson Heavy Bolters & Extra Armour.
Leman Russ Demolisher 2: Demolisher Cannon, Hull Heavy Bolter, Sponson Heavy Bolters & Extra Armour.
Ok, Platoon 1 forms a rear line, along with the Anti-Tank squad. THese guys are assigned to take out enemy armour at range.
Platoon 2 advances up the centre of the board. On the flanks are the Demolishers and Rough Riders. The Command Squads follow behind the Troops inspiring Ld10. The idea is that these guys wander into Rapd-Fire range, and the Demolsihers/Rough-Riders/Command Squads deter enemy assault units. The Squads have Grenade Launchers so that they can shoot up to 24" on the move.
The Tough Riders have Meltabombs on the Sergeant so that if he survives, he can pose a threat to any vehicles the enemy thinks he can't hurt. Their duty is to pile into incoming assualt units, and use the Lances to shred them. After that, they are harassment units (with their Pistols)
Commissar 1 joins the Command Platoon, and Commissar 2 joins Platoon 2 Command.
Ok, so what do you think about this then? I only play at local tournament weekends and so forth, and face varied competition.
I'd drop something and simply buy Light Infantry. That way you can infiltrate into range (and cover) and not waste a turn moving (yes, I'm talking about wasting the mighty lasguns).
I'd drop a Demolisher for a regular battle tank as well.
Overall, it's not going to dominate, but I think it will do well enough to please. At the very least I don't think it will fall flat on it's face.

... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
damn, now thats what I call an imperial guard horde!!
ditto on the light infantry thing. but also, consider the one that adds +1 to the weapon skill. Why? because theyll undoubtably end up in combat by the droves and just that little bit will make them that much harder to hit. If we had all the numbers and did an equation, it would save many many lives I think.
but otherwise.. nice! i'd consider some heavy flamer/chainsaw or hk-missle sentinels too..
possibly a hellhound..
I always liked the idea of a Priest with Evi, and a huge squad of Conscripts with warrior weapons
(although its almost impossible to get into a list)
I like what ya got here very aggresive, although it'll make Orks smile me thinks and any serious CC army will Ouchie it in record time. Only the guardsman i talking about here. The rest of the list is nice. RR are the awesomness and can do a fair wack of damage. I'm just concerned with the Guardsman of platoon 2, as i think there gonna get muched all to easy
For those enemies who willingly move against the Supreme judgement, of the Divine Emperor of man kind, Eternal death shall be granted. Amen
Hardened fighters + warrior weapons + a hero or commie = a scary close combat unit. Reletively useless, but scary!
Though unnumbered lurking perils await us, our blades will ever be ready.
FOR WE ARE THE EMPEROR'S VENGEANCE!
