Okay, I finally bought the army book. So here's my first try at an army list:
HQ: Captain Rasheman Dantares - 92 points
Space Marine Captain armed with close combat weapon, bolt pistol and combat shield. Equipped with Jump Pack.
Assault Squad Dantares - 125 points
Sergeant Fictivius and 4 Space Marines armed with bolt pistol and close combat weapon. They are all equipped with frag grenades and jump packs. They all have the Furious Assault skill.
Tactical Squad Orvicius - 120
Sergeant Lacom Orvicius armed with bolter.
4 Space Marines armed with bolters.
1 Space Marine armed with a missile launcher.
1 Space Marine armed with heavy bolter.
Scout Squad Margovan - 62 points
Sergeant Margovan with close combat weapon and bolt pistol.
1 Scout armed with a missile launcher.
3 Scouts armed with bolters
Land Speeder Typhoon - 70 points
Total: 399 points
Welcome to the wonderful world of space marines! I shall try and give you some insight into making small, assault-squad-containing lists, which I pride myself on being quite good at.Originally Posted by Ariakas
Firstly, however, a warning. They are not easy to use. Assault marines are expensive, and using expensive squads in small lists is very unforgiving. You need to be aware that keeping the assault squad safe needs to be at the centre of your plan, because you simply cannot afford to loose them.
Now, onto the list!Right, I would personally say that this guy is a waste of points. As you do not have to have an HQ in combat patrol, do not take one. They are generally too expensive for what they can do. If you do want to keep him, give him a power weapon, or exchange him for a chaplain with a jump pack (probably the better option). He will also need frag grenades, so you don't have any issues charging into cover.Originally Posted by AriakasOK, these guys are fun. If you get rid of the captain, add in some more bodies, and upgrade one to a veteran sergeant with a power fist. You will (almost) never regret this choice. I would aim for 8 models in this squad, which is still small enough to hide fairly easily behind terrain, but large enough to make a big impact on anything that it hits, and can even suffer a few casulties without too many problems.Originally Posted by Ariakas
The big thing with these guys is you HAVE to get the charge. It's no use paying 3pts per model if you are not going to benefit from it. Get a charge with these guys into an enemy unit, and watch him/her recoil in horror at the sheer number of I5 S5 attacks...Firstly, you cannot take both a missile launcher AND a heavy bolter in a tactical squad. If you want multiple heavy weapons, take a devastator squad.Originally Posted by Ariakas
Secondly, these guys are much better off being scouts, because they are cheaper, and they can infiltrate.
If you want to stick with the tactical squad, replace the missile launcher with a plasma gun, and keep the heavy bolter. Use the squad for general covering fire, with a HB and a plasma they should be able to make most opponents think twice before walking into thier field of fire.Good, but give the sergeant a bolter (he is likely to get more kills with a bolter, as the squad shouldn't be moving, so it can use its heavy weapon).Originally Posted by Ariakas
Also, this squad comes in at 75 points, not 62.
To use, infiltrate into a good patch of cover with commanding views of the battliefield. Try to get line of sight to as many units as you can, and think about where the enemy will be moving to in the coming turns. Not so good. Land Speeder Typhoons are essentially obsolete, if you're going to include a Land Speeder, make it a Tornado with a Heavy Bolter and Assault Cannon. These things are just nasty, especially in 400pt games.Originally Posted by Ariakas
Deploy it hidden, and don't be afraid to keep it out of enemy LOS for a few turns until you can get it in range of a really juicy target. Always move it more than 6" to benefit from the skimmers rules.
So, lets see what we come out with.
I would go for:
Assault Squad: 175 pts
6 Assault Marines
Scout Squad: 70pts
+1 Heavy Bolter
Scout Squad: 75pts
+1 Missile Launcher
Land Speeder Tornado: 80pts
Heavy Bolter and Assault Cannon
Of course, this is just my take on the list, so probably doesn't represent the models you have available, or the kind of army you want. Hopefully all of that will have been of some use to you, and best of luck with your army.
