Aight so i'm just starting my DH army. I've got some experience w/ SM and wanted to try DH, especially for the GK models. IMO they are the best looking models in the game, but aside from that, onto the meat of the post. I'm getting my army going and trying to figure out what I want to buy first, sadly all I have is a Justicar and 4 GK's, a guy at my GW store had just bought the last 5 GK box sets . So for the time being, I'm getting some proxy games in using marines for GK just to get a feel for the army and what not. My brother is a Nid Player and he uses a pure CC army. Here's what I tried to stack against it:
-Icon of the Just
Grey Knights (x9)
Grey Knights (x9)
GK Purgation Squad
-pretty specced out w/ bonesword/lashwhip combo and venom cannon
-5 genestealer retuniue
-Scything Talons/Rending Claws/+4 Save
-Scything Talons/Rending Claws/+4 Save
-Fully CC specced w/ crushing claws and scything talons
The game went well for the first few turns. My storm bolters and psycannons were ripping the stealers appart. The dread knocked the 'Fex down to 2 wounds and all was going well. He lost nearly both trooop units before he got into CC. However, once CC started, everything fell apart. Due to the lower Initiative of the DH vs. the 'Nids he used (GK I4 vs. I5-6 for Nids) my GK were getting shredded in CC before they could get their attacks in. End game I had half my Purg squad remaining while he had his broodlord, 'fex, and Tyrant alive. I was thinking of maybe dropping a GK or 2 from each troop squad and adding in another 4 psycannon purg squad, those guys were consistantly tearing up the genestealers the whole game. I was also thinking of dropping the BC infavor or a Inquisitor Lord. All advice is welcome, thanks in advance.
DH's worst opponent is probably 'nids for all the reasons you just said. The best ide is to unload as much firepower as you can. That means 2 psycannons in every squad, purgation squads with 4 psycannons each, and shooty inquisitors. Good luck next time!

Don't bother with the Icon here, he's a 1 Wound model that isn't any more effective than your average GK Terminator. You'd be better off with another PAGK/FAGK for the cost.HQ
-Icon of the JustExcellent! Big solid GK units are what a DH list should be build around!Troops
Grey Knights (x9)
Grey Knights (x9)Lots of people dislike these but I swear by 'em. Future advice: never give the squad more models than can buy psycannons (so don't go for a 8-model squad with only the 4 psycannons), it's a waste.GK Purgation Squad
-Psycannon (x3)Hmm. I never really like fielding a lone vehicle, especially one as fragile as a Dreadnought, but you DO need it's heavy weapons. I just can't decide if these are the particular best weapons for him to have. If you, for example, swapped the TLLC for a Plasma Cannon, you'd be throwing out a template that ignores 3+ and higher saves - very useful against Tyranids, who usually clump together, and even more so against Genestealers. An Assault Cannon would have a higher rate of fire, but you'd have to be close with the enemy (and would probably want a DCCW over the ML in that case).GK Dreadnaught
-Missle LauncherI think you'd be better suited by adding 1-2 Psycannons to your Troop GK units. Purgation squads are fairly specialized (and the psycannons there cost more than in Troop GK squads), so taking more than one of them can be risky - especially in a game this size. I would, though, get a fourth GK and a fourth Psycannon into the Purg squad you already have.I was thinking of maybe dropping a GK or 2 from each troop squad and adding in another 4 psycannon purg squad, those guys were consistantly tearing up the genestealers the whole game. That would require you to also lose the Dreadnought, which I don't think you should do. If you want to make the BC more useful, give him a psycannon (and NO other upgrades) and stick him with one of the Troop GK units (whichever one also has psycannons, if only one ends up with them). Don't put him into the Purg squad, as he belongs closer to the melee end of things.I was also thinking of dropping the BC infavor or a Inquisitor Lord. All advice is welcome, thanks in advance.I disagree. GK come with stormbolters and can take psycannons, both of which are very effective against Tyranids. The only troubles I usually have with Nids are their big guys, but thats only if I forgot to bring along some heavy weapons here and there.Originally Posted by Phoenix Guard 1988
One idea, if you have trouble, is to add in a single IG Platoon. You can put up to three Heavy Weapons into a minimum sized Platoon, five in a maxed one. Missile launchers (for their blast templates & ability to take out MCs) are very useful here, as are Auto Cannons (if you face a LOT of MCs) and Heavy Bolters (if you face a lot of the swarm guys).

Heres another option I have, take a base SM army w/ 2 small 5 man tac squads w/ lascannons and a Master for Rites of Battle, then add in the 2 x 10 man GK squads. That will put me up to about 800ish points letting me add another 7 or 8 man GK squad as fast attack, or add a BC w/ some termies.
Your idea regarding the Inq. Lord isent a bad one - the usual Lord w/psycannon, heavy bolter + plas servitors, etc, setup can definitely add some serious shooting power to stop those genestealers (and the plasma cannon can help with the MCs).
Beware however - without a GK hero, you cannot take any GK vehicles, includign dreadnaughts.
I play 'Nid a lot, and have never lost, but there are a few things that help.
Take a Grandmaster with Icon, regardless of the low point games. He is worth every penny against Hive Tyants and Carnifex's. Especially send him against the Hive Tyrant. Don't let this squad get into CC with Genestealers if you can avoid it.
Take Pyscannons in a least one troops squad like Megalo said. I add a lone =][= with a psycannon to go behind them for a mini Purgation squad. Target Genestealers firts, and then Warriors.
Shoot Genestealer first by everyone if at all possible. They are the only thing that will easily kill your Grandmaster and Retinue.
Drop the Dread. 'Nids can be quite shooty with Venom Cannons. If you do take one, take an AC/CCW variant. Use it for tying up a large squad of Guants for a while.
I walk my whole army, moving the PAGK squad of 10 in front of the HQ. I move my HQ to take on the Hive Tyrant. I infiltrate my Eversor to assault a Carnifex. You might get lucky enough to kill it before he attacks back.
A sample list that I would take would be:
Should be 999pts
GM/Icon + Retinue of 4 Termies
Inquisitor with Pyscannon
PAGK squad - Justicar + 5 troops, 2 Psycannons
PAGK squad - Justicar + 9 Troops
