I've been in the market for a second 40K army and I decided to build Deathwing. I really like the older Termie models (so strange I know) and Deathwing seems more like a fun army than an army built to win alot of games. Here's my rough list, I just always like to get feedback on a new list as 15-20 heads are better than one.
Epistolary w/ Psychic Hood, Force Weapon, Terminator Armor and Honors, Storm Shield, Veil of Time, Fear of the Darkness- Command Squad of 3 Termies w/ 2 Assault Cannons, Termie Sergeant and Drop Pod = 430 pts
Dreadnought w/ Assault Cannon, DPF, Extra Armor and Drop Pod = 140 pts
3x 4 Termies w/ 2 Assault Cannons, Termie Sergeant and Drop Pod = 310 pts each
The basic plan would be, drop what I can in, shoot the nearest threat and than walk into CC with whats left, spitting lead the whole way. The pods can drop a guy here and there and are cover. The Librarian can kill any big gribblies my opponent will have and can also make a low LD threat run away. The Dreadnought can help with the shooitng as well as bust up tanks, draw fire and hold up squads with no AT in CC. Thoughts?

Well I would make the epistolary a codicier with just fear of the darkness with the basic 4 man cmd squad.
The dread is fine...
The troops... well the point values are off. 5 termies (just count the sergeant as a termy since you shouldn't give him any wargear) with 2 assault cannons and a pod is 295 pts, 290 once GW comes out with the new codex...
For tactics, if you win the choice to go first or second go second. You will get the first and last say in the battle.
Unless you play on small boards with loads of terrain you will get kicked.
DW are essentially a shooty army, made even more so by improvements in ACs and loss of assault termies in DW squads. As such anyting within 24 inches should get ACd to death. to do this you need to be consolidated into a fire bases and shoot as much as possible, DSing really doesnt help this. lossing the drop pods does have the down side of requiring you to use something to take out targets at longer range than 24 inches, this is best done using dreads with TLLC and ML, 2 of these will do nicely in most 1500 points battles although against an armour or heavy support heavy army you may want to lose the ACs off a termie squad and replace with CMLs or take a third TLLC dread.
HQ wise in 1500 points I favour libby with fury, more ranged stuff, usefull against mobs. there are advocates of DS libby plus command squad with FOD, but this is risky and will only work against low moral troops with lots of units bunched up with a nice gap in the middle for you to drop into. If I ever find an opponent that stupid, I will advertise for DW players to meet him, in the mean time, I stick with a more rounded approach
Everything you have been told is a lie!
