Hey there everybody-
After looking at the different Space Marine Chapters, the Space Wolves was the one that caught my attention the most. Having read and copied my friends Space Wolf Codex he keeps around whenever he fights them (plays Orks) the only trouble i have at the moment is deciding on how many Grey Hunter and Blood claw squads I should have and which squads should have Rinos. I am currently thinking 3 Grey Hunter squads(9x bolters, 1xmelta) and 1 Blood Claw Pack(7xCCW & BP, 2x PP & CCW, and 1x PW & BP w/Rino). The other advice is either having 2 Long fang Squads w(1xSergent w/Bolter, 2xLascannons,2xHeavy Bolters) and one Predeator Annilater w/Lascannon side sponsors tp make up for the lack oflong range weaponry in the army list. If you have any opinions on what I should do, please respond and I already have my Elite, HQ, and Fast the way i like it. Cheers!!!

Quannum, funkin' out in every way. Since 1987.
Ha-Ha sweet sounds like the old school wood elf rules. Most people use 3 PF in blood claw packs and the rhino is probably bad they get owned pretty quickly.. especially if you have no other vehicles.

I am actually planning on get probably 2 to 3 rinos in my army and i just bought my friends Codex of the Space Wolves for half price and in very good condition. the PF in the Blood Claw Squad is a good idea, but the main question is:
1.How many Blood Claw Squads should I have?
2. Should I change the way I have my Heavy support at the moment?
3.And how many Grey Hunter Squads I should have?
This advice would be appreciated and how many rinos would you reckonmend i should get.
Alright, i agree that rhinos are weak and shouldn't be used. I would do 3 blood claws, you might give them 2 PFs and 1 PP, and 2 grey hunters. Give the blood claws drop pods and maybe if you really want rhinos give the grey hunters rhinos. For heavy support i would take x2 long fangs and an exterminator. Exterminators can really be devastating. What are you taking for HQs Fast attack and elites? And how many points are you building to?
Hope i helped.

1. Take as many as you like, literally. It depends on how you play. Some of us love Bloodclaws and load their army with them. Others (like me) like Grey Hunters more. I only have 1 BC pack and for the rest mainly GHs.
You want a lot of charging maniacs that hit like a brick in CC and depend on that to win or do you want a lot of marines that can shoot as well as any SM and still take on most foes they'll meet in CC?
Of course you don't have to go on extremes either way, you can mix as you like.
Note that with SW it's adviced to load up on troops. At 1k I take 2 or 3 troop choices, in 1.5k 3-4. They take up at least half my points.
2. Your Long Fang packs aren't set up very well. I'd choose a real goal for them. Some better compositions:
1-2 lascannons, 2-3 missile launchers: very good vs tanks, can shoot infantry if needed and is not too expensive.
1-2 plasma cannons, 2-3 heavy bolters: anti-infantry, the expensive plasma cannons give extra punch vs heavily armoured troops, not too expensive.
2 missile launchers, 2 heavy bolters: cheap, does well against infantry, can shoot tanks if needed.
On the 2 LF pack, 1 tank idea, I recommend you go one way or the other. If you let your army slog on foot, I wouldn't take a tank either as it'd get shot fast. If you're mounting up I'd get 2 tanks for some extra vehicles.
3. See 1.
As for the Rhino matter. A lone Rhino will get shot indeed. But if you take like 3 Rhino's/Razorbacks and 2 tanks and Dreadnoughts your chances improve significantly.
Okay then where to begin. If your playing a footslogging list Long Fangs are okay, if your not don't take them. Now a few things to remember on blood claws. Their BS is lower than normal marines. If you want to take advantage of 3 power fist (which I personally believe is the only option for them) you need at least 11 blood claws in the pack, which in turn rules out putting them in a transport. This is fine but something you need to remember. Also I like bloodclaws but normally keep them a 1:1 proportion to your Grey hunters in terms of numbers of units. Blood Claws are good they just need the back up of the hunters to be really effective. Also if you do go with foot slogging them, consider adding a Wolf Guard. Give him a power fist and then you can have 4 power fists in one unit, and the enemy has to kill up to 12 guys to get to your fists, nasty in COD. Oh and its never that great of an idea to give Blood Claws plasma pistols.
On the point of the rhinos. The Space Marines in general suffer from this. Our vehicles are too fragile to be by themselves but too expensive to really get a lot in most circumstances. Now if you plan on putting a squad in rhinos, everone should be in them. This can be fairly effective with grey hunters because of the unit options. With true grit they always have 2 CC attacks, and can have 2 power weapons (or fists) in the squad. So load say 30 grey hunters into their respective rhinos, run them foreward, drop them off after moving the 12 inches and your set, or pop smoke so no penetrating hits, and you can move again next turn. Also, as has been stated already, take some bigger vehicles like vindicators or dreadnoughts to take some of the heat off them.
GW would have to bep pretty stupid to care that much -Just buy your own. Or borrow it for a bit. But that word "copied" will be giving any GW staff on these boards coronaries.
Number one, the orc player bought the codex, next they just made a new customer, finally the 40 or so odd marines, and 3 rihnos are worth a free codex for GWs bottom line. And anyone in that company who thinks otherwise is quite short sighted.
Just thought id through that out there.
GW is doing just fine.
Thnx for the advice. After some thought, i plan top probably get 2 Grey Hunter and 2 Blood Claw Squads to have the 1:1 idea or I might get 3 of each. The Blood Claw Squads would be mounted into rinos to advance acroos the battlefield with the Grey hunters moving in as support. As for the Long Fangs, i am thinking to get 2 of them and give them 2 Lascannons and 2 missle launchers each so that they can take out tanks and also do damage to infantry units and have a Predator Annilater as my other Heavy Support choice. As for my HQ choices, I plan to get a Wolf Lord w/4 Wolf Guard armed with power weapons and BP to support my men in close combat mounted in a Razorback w/Hvy. Bolters and get a Venerable Dreadnought w/assult cannon, heavy flamer and powerclaw. For elites, 1 Squad of 6 wolf scouts armed with power weapons and 2 w/PP, 1 Terminator squad w/2 assult cannons. and no Fast attack at the moment. So if you think there is any improvments that need to be made to my idea of my army, please tell me so. A
I recommend you start with 2 each and then expand with the units you like best. After some thought, i plan top probably get 2 Grey Hunter and 2 Blood Claw Squads to have the 1:1 idea or I might get 3 of each. As for the Rhino's, you could also turn it around: drive the GHs up the field, disembark and start shooting. Then the BCs can move up to counter charge anyone threatening the GHs. Both tactics work.If you're also taking a Pred Anni you'd maybe better tool one of your Long Fang packs for anti-infantry. 2 mighty anti-tank units are certainly enough. As for the Long Fangs, i am thinking to get 2 of them and give them 2 Lascannons and 2 missle launchers each so that they can take out tanks and also do damage to infantry units and have a Predator Annilater as my other Heavy Support choice. The Dread I'd stick in a drop pod.As for my HQ choices, I plan to get a Wolf Lord w/4 Wolf Guard armed with power weapons and BP to support my men in close combat mounted in a Razorback w/Hvy. Bolters and get a Venerable Dreadnought w/assult cannon, heavy flamer and powerclaw. For elites, 1 Squad of 6 wolf scouts armed with power weapons and 2 w/PP, 1 Terminator squad w/2 assult cannons.
Also, SW can't have normal terminators. If you want them you have to kit your Wolf Guards with them. Which brings me to the next point.
Your Wolf Guard are very vulnerable and weak. If you let them keep power armour I'd fill the pack up to at least 7, get some of them nifty weapons and the rest ccw&bp or ccw&bolter. Then stick them in a Rhino instead.
On the other hand you could make it a Wolf Guard terminator pack and stick it in a pod or let it walk (the former is the best).
Finally, with 2-3 transports and 1 tank you could prove quite vulnerable to enemy anti-tank fire. You could consider dropping the tank and using the Rhino's only to drive up the field turn 1 and disembark.
