    2K thinking of starting guard

    I currently play chaos and want a fun army to play as a 2nd. I already have aquired 2 leman russess plus a box of guardsmen from a friend who got out. So thats where i want to go.

    Anyway the idea right now is 2K points that comes froma sudeo-deathworld with a big hive city (industrial base)... so the idea of 1 walled big hive city surrounded by jungles and the likes with tribes or nomadic peoples.

    So there is the HQ command squad (140-150ish points)
    Then the Hive Guard (925 pointsish)
    Then the jungle Guard (925 pointsish)

    Running theory being that whatever points game im playing (save like 500 and combat patrol) i set aside the Command squad... then divide the other points in half.... always tring to keep a roughly half and half.

    What ya think?

    If you could work in Iron Discipline some how, Iron Discipline makes life much easier. If your unit drops below half strength and all you got left is the heavies/specials if they break, they don't come back without Iron Discipline.

    Hrrmm... A medic would be useful to keep those plasma guns firing... *shrug*

    More dead infantry... Might wanna consider making one of these into a Missile Launcher Anti-tank. You've got lots of infantry killers... Could use a bit more Anti-tank.

    Okay... Overall, if someone fields a guant heavy 'Nids or big Ork mods, this army will eat them for breakfast. However, I only count 3 lascannons and 1 missile launcher for armor 14 popping. You have a number of drop/infiltrating Melta guns, however, I'd be worried they'd get killed before you could make use of them or if they drop off the board, into difficult terrain, etc. etc. Also, an army that fielded loads of speeders or other light armor things would be difficult to take down.

    Other thing I notice, is the vox system seems unneccessary. Your fire base is only going to be one platoon and some tanks. All that could easily be inside the bubble of your HSO and attending JOs. Only one that might be neccessary is the Rough Riders and maybe the flamer squads. With so many drop/suicide squads, the vox is kind of unneccesary.

    My suggestion would be to drop the meltas off your demo squads and/or drop one demo squad all together, trim the Vox system and try to put one more platoon of Hive guard with some Missile Launchers and/or Autocannons. That'll give you some more bodies, some more anti-armor and a stronger fire base.

    Another thing... If you're going to take this many Jungle Fighters you must have a decent amount of terrain on the table. Maybe swaping a Russ for a Demolisher would be a good idea, since the ranges would be low. Plus the sponsoon Plasma Cannons can make short work of MEQs, especailly deep striking ones, if your suicide vet squad fails to do its job.

    Yeah i spent much time thinking about the iron disciple. I would really like to have it... i just dont want to drop anything.....

    As far as fluf goes about the rough riders. I had imagined them as a kind of honar guard riding thru the streets on parade and like that. Not sure a parade fits into the far future that 40k portrays or a hive but thats what i had. every hive im sure has its upper class citizens.. attending balls and theater and the likes.

    This rough rider guard would attend royal functions like that.

    Though they could just as easily be nomadic riders.

    I could include both.. that would be neat. As kinda of like one from each sect...... hm.......


    There are 4 las and 1 missile but your right that may be too light on the anti tank. I had kinda thrown the melta "suicide squad" into the anti tank catigory. With AP 1 and deepstriking into back armour. BS 4, 3 shots.... ect.... this will destroy something.

    The meltas in the demo squads was to give them something else to do should they live. Plus turn they drop down they have to get withing very close to use the demo charge anyway. Basic idea was to deep strike... melta... demo charge... then anything they do after that is a bonus...

    Thus why none of the special weapons or vet squads have voxs or anything cool

    I do like the idea of having a missile launcher jungle squad to up my ANTI-meq/tank ability.

    The games at my shope are usally terrain heavy... ether by my or opponents design. We play very few games without atleast 3 tree bases and some other random stuff.... thats just the way it is... very different from my last group of gamers.

    Ill rework list tonight. I still have 70 some points to play with too. That could almost get a squad of 3 missile launchers.
