    1850 vs The nids

Im new to a club that sports a bunch of Tyranid players. I have yet to play them and i have a bad feeling my DP SPace marine army will get torn apart vs hordes. Plus i find it pretty unfluffy that a SM chapter would drop an army smack in the middle of an Tyranid swarm.

I find it more believable that an Army would dig itself in, in front of an advancing Nid army.

Well here goes my first attempt at creating an army list that would be fun against Nids. Any suggestions would be great !

ok if this list is purely for taking out nids then my first bit of advise is this, take the tank-hunters off your elites dev squad.. infiltrateis a better choice since you have to take something and tank hunter is uselsess agasint a non tank army, it allos you to deply them last basically giving youa choice of locations to target the main threat

plenty of lascannons around although you might wanna dropa squad so you can bolster the ranks of the others slightly

personally i would drop one of the whirlwinds and replace it with another destructor pred. wonderful vehicles

your LSts i presume are for harrassessing the enemy along his flanks, since they will die quick if there are any guns in the army

all in all it looks ok,but i'd recommend making the squads bigger, since your only real loss will be a lascannon, anddespite the MC they cna take most nid armys focus more on numbers rather than MC nidzila lists

Drop pods terrorise nids - their speed advantage is nullified, and you get first strike.

Plus i find it pretty unfluffy that a SM chapter would drop an army smack in the middle of an Tyranid swarm.
? that is exactly what space marines do, a surgical strike into the heart of the enemy.

Drop pods are the main methoid of deployment for space marines.

Your list looks anti nids thats good.

But it will be hard to win missions with this list, as its fairly imobile.

    Tac #4 @ 140 pts.
    x6 Bolters, x1 Plascannon
    Sgt. Bolter

    Tac #5 @ 140 pts.
    x6 Bolters, x1 Plascannon
    Sgt. Bolter
These arent worth the points, i suggest you stick with lascannons, or heavy bolters.
    Predator Destructor @ 115 pts.
    Auto Cannon, HB Sponsons
    Xarmor
Id use a third WW, that way you dont have to survive 10S guns shoot at you.

    Assault Squad@ 206 Pts.
    x7 BP&CCW; frags
    Sgt; BP, Powerfist, frags
Not a big fan of these guys against nids - they are ok, but gene stealers make them look rather weak, and homogaunts can charge farther then they can, making it hard to use them as a counter charge unit in an effective way.

Consider ditching these guys for termintors - 2 more ACs and 2 storm bolters will probably do a lot more then these guys.

    HQ@ 91 pts.
    Master; BP, Power Sword
I suggest a librarain HQ, with FOTA, to lead a squad of terminators - rougly the same point cost, maybe 10-20 more points.

    Peace

Forged. My belief is that no wise commander would drop his troops in the midst of an Tyranid attack due to there exellent abilities in CC. I do feel that the DP assaults are excellent tactics vs armies that are weak CC and lower in model count. I would think a good commander would dig itself in to deal with these sort of armies. However i do see the advantage in using Drop Pods vs this army to more or less clamp down on them and force them to fight from the front and rear.

Considering this and taking into account some of the suggestions im creating a list that uses the core of my Drop Pod army along with an More dug in element. Ill use my LST's to run up a weak flank to harrass the advancing swarm.

Here is my normal DP army followed by my newly adjusted list:

    Normal:

    (2)

    Default
I revised the army as per the suggestions.

My idea with this army is i would have a gun battery placed on the table and drop the podded elements either behind his main army.

Drop Podding is an excellant way of getting to rapid-fire Tyranids. Most broods will not stand up to bolter double tapping, so rather than a single volley at long range before being Assaulted you get 2 shots.

Nidz can assault up to 24", you're not going to avoid combat unless you kill them.

Drop Podding is not a brilliant way of getting to combat. Assault Marines should be in combat turn 2, but Podded units can only arrive turn 2 and can't assault until turn 3 at best, turn 4 if they arrive later.

When you do arrive your opponent has an opportunity to manouver his forces, moving to beyond 12" away or spreading a squad towards you and moving all else back.

I wouldn't have just a single Predator, you're not going to kill any Carnifices in the first few turns and it only takes one glance on one vehicle to render it worthless. As outnumbered as you'll be for the first few turns you really want manouverability, or hidability.

Drop it for another couple of LST's.

I know how that is, 3 LST's are 240pts but cost £54. A Land Raider is 250pts but only £35.

    GW overcharges on them.
