Thought I'd get some advice on my army list and throw the challenge to come up with one different with the following restrictions that I had to follow.
Here's the curve ball though, These are pretty much the miniatures I have. I looked at the miniatures I had, and made the best army list I could out of it. So if you're going to make suggestions, please keep this restriction in mind. There is also the additional restriction that the army also came to 1000pts and that I use at least 1 drop pod.
From this list you can see the model totals I had
Librarian w/ lightning claws (1) - using them as force weapon and CCW
Marines w/ Bolt Pistol and CCW (7)
Marines w/ Power Sword and Bolt Pistol (1)
Marines w/ Power Fist and Bolt Pistol (1) - although in my list I'm using BP as a Bolter
Marines w/ Lascannon (2)
Marines w/ Missile Launchers (3)
Marines w/ Heavy Bolter (1)
Marines w/ Plasma Gun (1)
Marines w/ Melta Guns (2)
Marines w/ Bolters (17)
Familiar (1) - Using Azrael's Helmet Bearer
Drop Pods (as many as I need)
Total Models (37) + drop pods
Now to my actual army...
Traits I used are
Trust Your Battle Brothers
Cleanse and Purify
Flesh Over Steel
Faithful Unto Death
The traits fit in with the fluff and miniatures for the army. Miniatures were painted with squad numbers on shoulder pads, but I've mixed and matched marines however I wanted to create my squads. That's where the Faithful Unto Death comes in. This army represents what forces were available for my HQ (and me), and this is how he's decided to arrange them to get the best combat effectiveness from his remaining troops. Due to being recently devastated, this Chapter has not been able to resupply its mechanized forces so it must rely on its remaining marines. After being reduced so much in capacity, the marines have learned especially to Trust in their Battle Brothers.
Long intro... here's the actual army list
Veil of Time
Fury of the Ancients
Model actually has converted lightning claws - I'm treating them as the force weapon and CCW
Command Squad (230)
Marines x 10
Vet Sergeant w/ Power Sword and bolt pistol
Bolt pistols and CCW x7
Tactical Squad (90)
Tactical Squad (90)
Tactical Squad (265)
Melta Gun x2
Vet Sergeant w/ Power Fist and Bolter
Counter Charge and True Grit
Yes I do have a drop pod miniature & this Tac squad is FA because it has a transport in an Army with flesh over steel.
Devastator Squad (135)
Missile Launchers x3
Its very top heavy.. the tacticals are sorta getting shafted. I wish I had more bolter marines to give them. I originally thought the tacticals in drop pod would be troops but just realised they'd be FA because of the traits.
Anyhoo... I'd love to see what others can come up with.
Well, I'm not sure exactly what it is we are supposed to help you with. You have used every single model you own, so the only thing we could possably do is arrange them into squads differently, and to be honest, with the models you have available they are aranged about as good as they can be.
I didn't add up points, so I'm not sure if you have any points left over, but one small chance you could make to increase your effciency a little bit is move the Heavy Bolter into the Dev squad, and then give the command squad a Drop Pod. You could drop true grit and counter charge to get these points. (I personally think TyBB is a total waste of points against any army but Orks)
If you wanted to do something fancy, you could tone-down your Libby, dump TyBB and go with See, but don't be seen as a trait, and give your tac and dev squads Infiltrate. I'm not saying that would be better then what you have, but might be fun.
Thanks Sinjin, that's sorta like the stuff I was looking for...
I'll be using this list against tyranids initially, but I wanted a general list I could use anywhere.
Good idea on the heavy bolter. It's so obvious now that you mention it. If I move the Hvy Bolter to the Dev Squad, it might be worthwhile drop podding the command squad as well...
Thanks Sinjin. Thats exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for.
Hvy Bolter is a good idea... will do that definately. And since I've removed the Hvy Bolter, drop podding the command squad becomes feasible.
I did think about infiltrating... but I play against tyranids fairly often and doing anything to move closer to them is well... might be worth it for the dev squad so i can deploy last and get a good field of fire. Not sure if its worth trading for TYBB. That gives my drop pod squad 7 extra attacks when they get charged after podding, and lets me move my marines up tp 6 in to ensure they all get into combat.
I'll have a look into both options I guess.
Thanks again! Any other suggestions anyone?
Oops.. the original post did work...
Damn browser timing out...
