    concept for a tournament trait army 1500pts......(help please)

    i have come up with an idea for a space marine army that can shoot, fight and take a hell of a beating. the traits to be employed will be trust your battle brothers and honour your wargear with the major drawback being flesh over steel and whatever minor drawback that would hinder my army the least.
    my idea is that the devastators with true grit and vet seargent can hold the line buy shooting and counter attacking almost anything that should attempt to walk across the board while the elite devastators keep blasting away. the rest of the army will be filled with scouts, las/plas tact squads and true grit tact squads.
    the HQ has yet to be decided but my initial idea was for a command squad with tank hunter and true grit skills.

    any feedback and suggestions would be appreciated greatly as armys dont come cheap.

    thanks guys i knew i could count on yall

    the preview list for the "heavy arms" chapter

    little chaplain with terminator honours and bolt pistol = 101pts
    8 bodyguards including power fist veteran seargent and 2 missie launchers all with true grit and tank hunter skills = 238pts

    ELITE
    6 devastator marines with 4 missile launchers and tank hunter skill = 188pts

    TROOPS
    6 tact marines with las cannon and plasma gun = 115pts

    6 tact marines with las cannon and plasma gun = 115pts

    8 tact marines including powerfist sarge with missile launcher, plasma gun and true grit skill= 194pts

    8 tact marines including powerfist sarge with missile launcher, plasma gun and true grit skill = 194pts

    HEAVY SUPPORT
    devastator marines including powerfist sarge with 4 missile launchers and true grit skill = 224pts

    devastator marines including powerfist sarge with 4 missile launchers and true grit skill = 224pts

    TOTAL = 1492 points

    BODYCOUNT = 59 models

    this is just a basic idea.

    please critique

    The costs seem a bit off for the Heavy Support Devastator Squads. I think you actually are running 6-man squads there, not 8-man squads... or you didn't account for the THonours & Pfist on the sergeant.

    Cost issues aside, it looks like it could be a pretty tough list for power-armoured enemies, even Rubric Space Marines or Death Guard. Thinking about Godzilla nid lists... non-Carapace MCs could also be hurt really badly.

    The single Missile Launchers in the Tactical Squads... I'm not sure they are needed, and maybe you will want Heavy Bolters against 4+ armour saves so that you don't waste so many AP3 weapons on horde-type lists.

    What if you have to move forward (i.e. ind-fire Basilisk(s) and/or a Defiler behind cover in the corner/corners)? That's the other question. It's maybe a little too static for my tastes... but I'm not a tournament player.

    sorry bout the errors on the list, the true grit devastator squads are 8 men deep.
    im not too worried about enemy units hiding or getting across the baord as i could drop one las plas sqaud and put the true grit tact squads in drop pods.
    another alternative is to take out a true grit tact sqaud and replace it with an assault squad.
    thanks eater of corn for the help. nice to know you dont think my army is complete pants.

    CORRECTION: THE DEVASTATOR SQUADS SHUOLD BE...

    8 MAN DEVASTORS INCLUDING VET SARGE WITH POWER FIST AND 4 MISSILE LAUNCHERS ALL WITH TRUE GRIT SKILL.

    any more suggestions please?

    I have always promoted the idea that people should 'math-hammer' the true grit skill before they take it. If you really crunch the numbers, it's almost worthless. Even more so in your army, because you have to spend 6 points per guy for it in your Dev squad. You have to spend the points for every member, yet only the people with bolters can get any use out of it.

    You're much better off just having a squad or two with the sole purporse of protecting you from assaults.

    Remember the golden rule. Give a squad a job, and then only give them equipment neccessary to carry out that job.

    I agree. Your devastators seem like over priced multi taskers to me. I'd get rid of true grit on all your shooters and get some combat specialists.
