What does an Asscannon of Doom army look like?

I'm wondering what the classic min/max asscannon army of doom looks like. I want to play in local turnaments as well as a GT next year and I've heard that this is a very common army and very tough to beat as well. So I want to play test against it a couple of times to find general tactics that might work agianst this type of army, so I don't get cought with my pants down.

As far as I can tell it tries to max out on assault cannons so is this the basic list? Does this type of army actualy do well? What tactics do people who play this army generaly use?

    Epistolary (135pts)
    Termie armour
    Fear of the Darkness
    Storm bolter

    Termie command squad (240pts)
    5x termies
    Assault Cannons.

    Termie Squad (280pts)
    6x Termies
    2 Assault Cannons.

    Dreadnought (150pts)
    CCW
    Assault Cannon
    Heavy Flamer
    Drop Pod

    Tactical Squad (105pts)
    6x Marines
    Lascannon

    Tactical Squad (105pts)
    6x Marines
    Lascannon

    2 Land Speeder Tornados (160pts)

    2 Land Speeder Tornados (160pts)

    2 Land Speeder Tornados (160pts)

    Total Points: 1495

your tactical squads wouldnt fit well in this army.

here is an example of an asscannon army

Epistolary w/ terminator armour, storm shield, fury of the ancients – 158 pts

Terminator Command squad – 220 pts
    3 Terminators w/ assault cannon (x2)
    Terminator Sergeant

    Terminator squad – 265 pts
    4 Terminators w/ assault cannon (x2)
    Terminator Sergeant

    Terminator squad – 265 pts
    4 Terminators w/ assault cannon (x2)
    Terminator Sergeant

    Terminator squad – 265 pts
    4 Terminators w/ assault cannon (x2)
    Terminator Sergeant

Dreadnought w/ assault cannon, heavy flamer, extra armour, smoke, venerable – 173 pts
    Drop Pod

Dreadnought w/ assault cannon, heavy flamer, extra armour, smoke – 153 pts
    Drop Pod

or you could keep your existing army but fix a few things such as removing the lascannon squads and adding:

    1x tacticals of:

    Tactical squad – 205 pts
    7 Marines w/ melta (x2)
    Veteran Sergeant w/ power fist
    Drop Pod

or a 3rd termie squad as long as you reduce the second one to a 5 man squad.

I just posted the classic miniamal point tactical squad as the list needs at least 2 troop choices.

    Not bad for 1500 points!

But if you have the problem with the troops not having ass-cannons you could always do a deathwing army...
    Black Templars 3000 points
    Tau Empire 1750 points
    Tyranids 1500 points

    Hordes of Chaos *Coming soon*

I am currently playing an Assault Cannon army in a local campaign that is proving to be a very tough nut for people to crack. I have only lost once so far, and that was to speed freaks. It was the first time I had played agaisnt such a list, and my tactics were not good. The second time we played I beat him as badly as I was beaten in the first game.

My Assault Cannon army is a Lysander list.

at 1500 points its Captain Lysander with Command squad, 3 terminator squads (all with 2 assault cannons)

    2 LST's

2 scout squads with teleport homers and power fisted seargents.

A marine list with lots of plasma would do very well against such a list.

I played an ass-cannon army in a tourney, too, with 3 wins vs. Goffs, Necrons, and Tau. But the army is very fragile. And if you play with composition score, you will be marked down severely. Therefore, I wouldn't play it in a GT.

GTs put very little value on wins, much easier to paint well, be very nice, and have 40% troops, 15% HQ/elites/fast attack/heavy support.

Fairly solid army, for power gaming play.
