I know this list isn't going to be super competitive but I want to see what you guys think anyway. This came out to 1500pts exactly when I added it up but then again I could be off slightly.

Can a Devastator squad have 5 heavy weapons or a is there only a single missile launcher?

It is an interesting list. I would be curious to how well the =][=, retinue and Land Raider turn out. In my experience the Whitch Hunters are a little on the soft side when it comes to combat.

I'm not sure about the 5 man marine squads with flamers.

I think you may be erring on the "unorthodox"

    Cheers

Theres 2 seperate missle launchers in the squad in addition to the other weapons. And if I can't have five heavy weapons then I'll drop the heavy bolter, course I don't know where I'll put the 25 exta pts.

You can only have a max of four heavy weapons in a Devestator squad. I don't recommend mixing the weapons as you have done - Heavy Bolters, Plasma Cannons, and Lascannons/Missile Launchers all have very different targets, and by throwing them all together, you are making each less effective in its own right.

I'd recommend predominantly a single type of weapon in the squad - i.e., just HBs, or just PC's, or just LC's. The only mix I can see being recommended, or worthwhile, is Lascannons and Missile Launchers, as they are both primarily anti-tank.

Sorry about the mistake, I don't actually have the codex with me at the moment so I couldn't look at it. That Leaves me with an additional 30pts any ideas what it can be put to?

I'd recommend using the points, and any you can spare elsewhere, to beef up the Assault Squad. A general rule of thumb with Heavy Weapon squads (i.e., Devestators) is that you should have one wound for every heavy weapon. I'd recommend dropping one of the heavy weapons, at least, to give you some more points to work with.

Then, take the points to beef up the Assault Squad and try to get a vet. sarge with a Power Fist in there. The squad's effectiveness should noticeable increase, as they can deal with a wider range of targets then, including being simply more effective against anything with a half decent armour save.

I'll look into it as soon as I can get my hands on the codex again, thanks for the advice. Since I like the idea of lascannons would a Predator Annihilator be a better choice then a squad of lascannon toting Devastators? Seeing as it could at least move and shoot and with three lascannons it would stand a good chance of taking down tanks.

    Couple things...

    1) Are you dead set on taking the Inquisitor and retinue as they are?

As they stand, they are expensive and not nearly as effective in CC as they look on paper. The Inquisitor himself is quite easy to take out, and he's got a lot of extra baggage thrown in to just make the whole squad expensive and easy to destroy.

    2) If not, would you be willing to opt for a cheaper, and shootier, set up?

This would save you points and end up being more beneficial to your army, in my opinion. Something like the Inquisitor with some shooty weapon (DH Inquisitors have always been better at this, with Psycannons, but a Storm Bolter could be used here) and three Gun Servitors with Heavy Bolters, Sages and Mystics thrown in for their bonuses as it pleases you. Something to consider.

    3) Are you dead set on taking the Land Raider?

It looks good on paper, but against Eldar (both kinds) and Tau especially, it will fall very quickly, and is quite expensive. If you are going to be using it as a transport, it's a bad idea, simply because it won't be able to shoot all of the Lascannons its got latched onto it, making it a waste. If it just sits and shoots, it's a much too expensive LC platform.

    What I would recommend:

    1) Swapping the CC Inquisitor/retinue with a shooty one.

    2) Drop the Land Raider.

    3) Upgrade the SM Tactical squads a bit to include a Lascannon and Plasma Gun. Runs you 115 points per six-man squad. Cheap and useful.

    4) Upgrade your Assault Squad to be 7-8 man with a Power Fisted Sergeant.

    5) If you have the points leftover, get another Exorcist and throw in a Predator with Lascannon turret, Heavy Bolter sponsons.

Hopefully you have the points to do this, but it's your list - do with it as you will. You've got a lot of options open to you, and I'm just posting up what I would do. Test around!

    Hope this helps you. =)

Alright, I'm going to go back look at my options available to me and see how I can improve the list.
