So I've come to the conclusion I want to collect all DA now, but I'm going to start with a Ravenwing army. The idea of all fast moving vehicles and bikes just sounds really fun for me. Something different.
This list is not a pure RW, because I wanted to do something different then what most would do, but yet keep the theme of fast moving army. I plan to play my bikes as a mobile shooting army, avoiding combat as much as possible, thus why the assault unit will be used to assault things I really want to avoid my bikes getting tanbled with. Not to mention the master on jetbike can support any assault needs.
Master on Jetbike
Chaplain with jump pack
x3 6 bikes, SGT w/ power weapon, attack bike with MM, Speeder
x1 Assault marines, 10, SGT w/ powerfist and combat shield
The stratagy is that the bikes will use combat squads to creat lots of targets to shoot at. The chaplain and assault marines will advance up and assault the nasty stuff, but depending on opponent an situation, they can go combat squads, the SGT with one half and the chaplain with the other half.
Seem decent enough?
It could use more powerfists. I'd suggest dropping an attack bike for these.
Ravenwing is better now because of the decreased cost of bikes, but has far less firepower due to the restrictions on Land Speeders.
With the extra 20 pts I would get 2 meltaguns for your bikers. So you lose a multi melta and gain 2 meltaguns, and 3 powerfists.
The problem with meltaguns is the short range, and same with powerfist, means you intend to get into assault. I plan to play my RW as a stand off and shoot army. To me that is what this army is meant to do, not zip up and get first turn assault. So for me, the power weapon is strickly there in case I do get assaulted. The attack bikes are there for tank hunting, and have much better range then a meltagun, and two wounds means a little better survivability. Not to mention the assault cannon on the speeders have anti tank potential. I'm thinking the speeders are for support, where ever it's needed.
The assault marines, made fealess too with the chappy, are for assaulting the hard combat units I want to keep away from my bikes.
