    Thanks,
OK, just some general points about the Guard (at least imho! )

You need bodies and you need guns.
Your weapons only hit 50% the time so you need to figure at least two of everything to get the job done - especially true of one shot weapons like lascannons.
For your opponent, one tank is a target, two is problem, three a disaster.
Line squads are there to provide meat shields for the heavy weapons.

You don't mention any likely opponents so I'll assume a fairly "generic" list is called for capable of hitting both hordes and armour?

You have 1,000pts, for that you need to keep the fripperies down really and get bodies and guns into it as mentioned.

Lascannons in command squads I would suggest is a bad idea, they only have 5 figures making them more vulnerable and if your officer needs to move they can't fire and if your opponent has armour he'll want to take out the L/C and as a bonus he gets your command.

The sentinel is just a target at only 1 strong, ditto the Leman Russ.

    Here's a "possible" list:

    Doctrine: Iron Discipline

    HQ

JO with Heavy Bolter & Iron Discipline
    55pts

    Troops

    1st Platoon

JO with Heavy Bolter & Iron Discipline
    55pts

Squad with Grenade Launcher & Lascannon
    93pts

Squad with Genade Launcher & Lascannon
    93pts

    2nd Platoon

JO with Heavy Bolter & Iron Discipline
    55pts

Squad with Grenade Launcher & Lascannon
    93pts

Squad with Genade Launcher & Lascannon
    93pts

    Armoured Fist Squad

Chimera with Multilaser, Hull Heavy Bolter
    85pts

    Squad with Grenade Launcher
    68pts

    Heavy Support

Leman Russ with Hull Heavy Bolter & Sponson Heavy Bolters
    155pts

Leman Russ with Hull Heavy Bolter & Sponson Heavy Bolters
    155pts

    Total

    1,000pts

If you can expand the game to more points then add back in some "goodies" for officers, vehicle upgrades etc.

However always remember Guard "Elites" will never be as "elite" as some others, and you can end up making point sinks out of them when you could have had simply more bodies and guns

Only an idiot fights a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the throne of the kingdom of idiots would fight a war on twelve fronts.

Got a headache so a quick post only...

    1) drop the bionics on the main officer and give him an honorifica
    2) drop the lascannons in the commands they realy arent a good idea.
    3) not too sure about the vet squad, think it might be better as two small squads one with a lascannon and 5 men and one with the plasmas and the other 5
    4) plasma hevay bolter is a good combo keep it.
    5) the chimera needs extra armour and possibly smoke.
    6) sentinel seems ok and the russ seems fine
    7) you dont have many vehicles so think about dropping the russ to get another chimera nad another sentinel, put the 5 man vet squad with plasma in a chimera, the other sent in a spare FA slot, multilas again.
This would give the enemy more targets, it would lose some firepower but adds mobility to your force.
once you have dropped the lascannons your force will be light on anti tank, one in the vet squad can help but think of finding excess points to make a fire support squad, or change one squad to a missile launcher and plasma and stick its heavy bolter in the platoon command.

Il post more at some point going to lie down now.

    hope that helps

    A

With your command squad, it's the primary unit that keeps your men from running away. So you should put the best possible leadership you can in here. Any upgrades on the Officer beyond Iron Discipline (which is an A grade doctrine) or a nice cheap power weapon is going to be rather useless as you should be hiding this unit out of LOS so the enemy can't shoot it.

For this reason a Lascannon or any other gun (other than a mortar) is a bit of a waste, you're going to to be hiding the unit so i can't shoot anyway.

You shouldn't mix and match weapons with different roles. A plasmagun is either for hunting light Vehicles, killing terminators or hunting MCs. So either drop the heavy weapon altogether or select a Lascannon.

    Troops
    Infantry Platoon 225 points
    -command squad

Put a heavy bolter here, put an expensive and higher priority target in the Infantry units.

Same as before, and I wouldn't usually advocate a Heavy Bolter and the Plasmagun together. Usually I just take Heavy Bolters for a cheap bait unit.

    Armoured fist squad 155 points
    plasmagun
    -Chimera
    multi-laser
    Hull heavy bolter
I believe you would be better served by selecting a unit of Grenediers and doing this. But really in a 1000pts I don't take tanks baring the Basilisk for a standard gunline army.

    Fast attack
    Sentinel 45 points
    multi-laser
Weak armour, the gun is nothing special. I'd drop it and bulk out a unit somewhere else or up the weaponry.

    Thanks,
As said before, 1 is a target, 2 is trouble, and 3 is a disaster (but I prefer a Basilisk to a third Russ, cheaper and can hit targets the Russes can't)
