Welcome to Librarium Online!
Been getting back into my Guards after a long stint of DH and from playing a game the other day had the idea to make a beef cake c/c HQ squad.. but my question is..
Is it too much? Should the points be spent best elsewhere? or Maybe the squad should be just toned down abit?
Here is the squad.
So basically they are all Fearless, on the charge they all gain +1 Attack (plus another for charging) and on the charge re-roll any fail to hit. Thats 10 p/weapon, 5 forceweapon, 4 stregth 8 - 18 attacks and 12 normal on the charge... that reroll to hit...
Keen to hear your thoughts
Im sure that two full platoons would be more use then this squad. Thats the problem really, any points you stead on a super command squad would be better used on more troops or tanks. If you want a close combat squad try rough riders, i would use them but there models suck.
Try this as a cheaper close combat squad -
4 guardsmen with las pistols and close combat weapons
Priest with Eviscerator
officer with power weapon
Give them hardened fighters and close order drill and the officers will hit at WS5 and I5:yes:
Unfortunately you can only apply close order drill to infantry platoons and conscript platoons, not command platoons.Give them hardened fighters and close order drill and the officers will hit at WS5 and I5:yes:Today 179at this point you might as well throw in the holy relic4 guardsmen with las pistols and close combat weapons
Priest with Eviscerator
officer with power weaponUnfortunately only tanith ig models get the +1 attack for the guant charge, and i can tell by the psyker that this is not a tanith regiment.on the charge they all gain +1 Attack (plus another for charging)
Better luck next time.
For 310 points you could buy a full, 10 man Grey Knights squads with two incinerators and Master Crafting on the Justicar's Power Weapon.
You could also buy 6 Grey Knight Terminators with a few upgrades.
If you want to stay with guard, there is always rough riders.
I just can't make command squads a viable, efficient option. You put your primary leadership bubble at risk and pay through the nose to equip I3/4 T3 5+ save guardsmen for getting slaughtered.
I wish there was a better way, but that just wouldn't be IG.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
Ive found close comabt commands can be good and fluffy. The thing is the army needs to be geared that way so you have 2-3 of them.
The leadership isn't compromised if you use platoon commands as the assault. The more assaulty paltoon commands the cheaper the obligatory advisor int he command is.
Put it this way. The main command with a priest could have the icon. This makes the squad effective support for your line.
The ocmmisar boosts command LD and as per the thread affects the mian commands given LD in their bubble so he helps give LD 10 to the surrounding troops. So not to shabby.
Now platoon command are great for CC they are cheap and arent essential.
Take close order drill, take hardened fighters.
Now the platoon command gets
2 flamers, 2 members with vet upgrade and laspistol/ccw combo
The officer gets a powersword/lp, their is a (commisar or priest present, we shall use priest as an example) priest, power sword/lp.
Now that little lot with doctrines is expensive at 134 pts. Hang on a minute not that expensive considering it has the following.
2 flamer hits, 4 lp hits,
on the charge rerollable 4 ws 4 I 4 and 4 ws 4 I 5 powerweapon attacks, 12 other attacks ws 4 I4.
that is a fair whack then consider its support. The relic could be shown, a banner nearby or a sneaky honorifica. It may not be a marine command but combine three of these on the charge and the relic opening. You will eat through a decent squad. There would be enough ablative to take the casualites. (though you are hitting at the same time on average). You also have three squads against one. This means they have to wory about attack allocation!
This combined with rough riders will come as a shock to many assaulty players. Rough riders start the combat the commands mop up. Each command supported by rough riders and two squads of covering fire.
As for the command you suggest.
Drop gaunt. (unless you go exclusively tanith)
drop the meltas, this is a cc squad not tank busters. The eviscrator is an iffy choice but keep it. Stick this setup in a platoon command where it can benefit from the COD, itll be worth the extra cost. Also the camo isn't worth it really. Won't help in combat so if you have a camo army aboid combat.
Also there is no strength 8 as far as I can see. Have a little reread of the weapons rules.
hope that helps
