    Competetive Mechanized

I have taken up the challange to make an competetive tournament army.
First as I see things IG's major problem is mobility. Without they will have an hard time claiming objectives and to avoid close combat.
So what I will try to do is to combine firepower and manueverability. Secondly I need many scoring units and some close combat ability.

The plan is to make a chain of chimera's and Russ's on the flanks.
Sentinels to stay in the backand do long range tankhunting. This way the sentinels can snipe out betwen vechicles and/or terrain, or the can be obscured by standing behind the chain of vehicles.
Somewere hidden in the behind a Bassie will loop shells into the oncoming enemy.
This whole formation will be able to unleas tremendous firepower while being able to move 6' every turn.
For spearhead assaults or damage control, I will have 3 mounted squads of stormtroopers/veterans loaded with plasma and powerweapons/powerfist.
The Command squad will provide leadership via VOX while footslooging behind the chain.

Now I am just looking foward to playtest it tomorrow. What do you think of my idea?

    Here is the list:

I am a avid mechanized commander, having lead my troops to battle on many worlds and seen the enemy crushed under my treads many times.

You have a solid list, but for a competitve list, there is one thing that bugs me... only 27 men? 7 man squads? not to good.

In my 1500 list, I field 51 men, 5 chimeras, 2 russes, and 2 squads of deepstriking stormtropers. This list allows me manuverability, ordanance, loads of medium strength firepower, and forcing the enemy to hold back key units to handle the storm troopers, who have single handed crippled my enemy time and time again.

In your list if a squad suffers 4 casuaties, they are no longer scoring. This kind of casuaties can happen from a single autocannon shot, if they are mounted, which is your intention from the looks. You need more meat in your army. Storm troopers are great models, love their role, but I just don't think you have enoug of them to make effective troops.

    Thank you for your comment!
I forgot tell that all tournaments in Denmark is played with army selection restrictions. The army is subject to a maximum of 16 heavyweapons and 6 plasma/melta -guns.

My stormies are in squads of 8.
I know that there are not many boodies around. But my plan is to make target denial, except for the front armour of my tanks. So when the enemy infantry catch up with me, I will hopefully be more or less in full number with my stormies/vets.

But your are right! I might have to fit in some more bodies!
And if it not was for restrictions one Chimera more.

Would you mind post your army list?
    Doesnt it lack some lascannons?

You are right, my list is short on lascannons. let me give you a quick summary....

    HQ-
senior officer with powersword, plasma pistol, iron discipline
commissar with powesword and bolt pistol
    & carapace
Chimera with multilas and H. bolter

    Elites-
6 stormies with 2 meltas and deepstrike
6 stormies with 2 meltas and deepstrike

    Troops
HQ squad with JO officer with Iron discipline & carapace
Chimera with multilas and h. bolter

1st squad with gernade launcher & carapace
chimera with multi las and heavy bolter

2nd squad with gernade launcher & carapace
Chimera with multilas and heavy bolter

Iron fist squad with gernade launcher & carapace
Chimera with multilas and heavy bolter

    Fast Attack-
    Sentinal with Lascannon

    Heavy Support-
Leman russ with hull mounted Heavy bolter

Leman Russ with Hull mounted lascannon

I know that a lot of people diss carapace, but in a mech army, it is perfect. You don't have enough points left over for another squad, because of the chimera requirement, but you can give your troops more survivability!

That sound pretty lame, and skewed extremely strongly in favour of assault orientated armies.

Even with those restrictions, the list that is put up their could do well, becaus ethe amount of firepower that can be pumped out every turn from the chimeras is very impressive. your looking at 15 str 6 and str 5 shots every turn, in addition to whatever your men pump out.... not to shabby if you ask me.

As lascannons go, don't need them. In 1500 pts, how many tanks does a play have, save guard armies? 2? 3, maybe? The stormtroopers can handle these on their own, and despite what is said about deepstriking, I have had very good luck with them, and continue to rely on these guys as a crucial part of my plan.

I agree its a bit lame.

The restriction is codex specific. So assault armies is also restricted.

    Sentinel, lascannon, seachlight

    Elite
    9 vets,3xplasma, vox

    Chimera, smoke, searchlight

    Troops
    6 grenadiers, 2x plasma

I had my first game with the army. It was an defeat. But I also had a clever opponent with a strong marine army. I had a tough time stopping a terminators squad backed up by apothecaries. He also played with Jumpmarines, bikes, 4 lascannons and 2 whirlwinds.
Nevertheless I think my army showed potential.
And I found room for improvement.
    In needed a ap2 pieplate.
I need more vehicles to spreadout enemy fire.
I think it needs a hellhound.
Powerweapons wont do much good against anything.
    Keep it cheap

So here is my updated army without restrictions:

    HQ
    Command Squad
    Senior officer, powerweapon
    4 guardsmen
    Chimera, searchlight

    Antitank squad, 3x lascannon

    Sentinel , lascannon, searchlight

    Troops:
    6 grenadiers, 2x plasma
    Chimera, searchlight

    6 grenadiers, 2x plasma
    Chimera, searchlight

    6 grenadiers, 2x plasma
    Chimera, searchlight

    Fast Attack
    Hellhound, Smoke

    Sentinel , lascannon, searchlight

    Sentinel , lascannon, searchlight

    Heavy support
    Basilisk, indirect fire
    Demolisher, hull lascannon, searchlight
    Battletank, hull lascannon, searchlight
