Well I've seen many army lists for pure GKs and by now I have learned the basic formula: 2 full troops, 2 dreadnoughts & brother captain.
But I still want to play the thing that attracted me to GKs to begin with, terminators!
Grand Master with 9 retinue of terminators
<HQ & core force of the army>
Justicar with 4 GKs
Justicar with 4 GKs
Dreadnought with TLLC & ML
This is about 1000pts which is all I have to work with on models right now. I know I'm definately in for a challenge, but this is a theme army. Some tactical advice would be appreciated! I was thinking of deep striking and hoping for the best by getting into cc as soon as possible!
simply put, you need more boots on the field. be it IST or PAGK, you only have 21 models down, and a single anti-armor unit. after your dreadnought would get killed, you have no chance against armor 13+, they are literally invincible after it. also, as tough as termies may be, there are still plenty of things that can kill em. they're kind of specialized in who they excel against. against anything that'll punch through their 2+ saves or can ignore armor saves (5+ is not an impressive save, though better than nothing) or can instakill, they're hosed. you simply need more men. get lots more PAGK. i would suggest either another TLLC ML dread or a melta gun IST squad also.
but yea terminators are cool sadly you'll probably have to hold on to your models till a 1500+ points list though.
well in keeping with what you want to run this is how I would do it.
HQ = brother-captian = 270
- 4 termi, 1 /w psycannon
Elites = GKT 5 man = 270
- 1 /w psycannon
Troops = PAGK 6 man = 175
Troops = PAGK 6 man = 175
Heavy Support = Dreadnought = 110
- assault cannon, dccw + storm bolter
Total = 1000
At 1000 points almost no tanks are over 12 armor and anything that is av 13 has weaker side / rear, and anything av 14 would pretty much be unstopable even if you did take anti tank units. Besides you could always try to get a rend with the assault cannon if you really need to try to kill it.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
Doesn't a power weapon double strength so that the terminators could kill 13+ armour, i'm pretty new to 40k & go by a freinds codex & rule book. Soon i'll get my own but the draw to buy the miniatures is too great at the moment!
powerfists double strength. Power weapons just ignore armor saves.
but the DCCW is almost useless, seeing as how most 14 armour stuff have guns equipped on it that will take out that Dreadnought way long before it gets close to being in hand to hand.... Unfortunatly.
In anything 1000 or less i field my dreadnought with a plasma cannon/ missile launcher combo instead.At 1000 points almost no tanks are over 12 armor and anything that is av 13 has weaker side / rear,
Vehicles are immune to "gets hot" and the str of the cannon is more than sufficent to deal with light to medium tanks especially with the missile launcher there to help.It doesn't double strength but GKT power weapons happen to be at str 6 anyways meaning AV 12 isn't safe.Doesn't a power weapon double strength so that the terminators could kill 13+ armour, i'm pretty new to 40k & go by a freinds codex & rule book. Soon i'll get my own but the draw to buy the miniatures is too great at the moment!
Also, i usually run AT LEAST 2 GKT with the thunderhammer/storm shield combo for insta killing characters and for the added bonus that they are quite adept at dealing with vehicles. Str 8 and they inflict automatic crew shaken (i think its that one) results with every successful hit!!
And the models are fantastic!!
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!
Chuck Norris invented water
I like your determination against the odds
The best help I can give you is to hide.
Keep your army together, if you separate the enemy will pick you off.
If you have two squads of 5, give one a thunder hammer in each unit.
There is nothing better than smoking terminators with lascannons. One shot, One Kill...
Much must be risked in war.

With regards to the list, though, I'd say give it a try. You'll no doubt have a blast, even if you don't win as often. I'll tell you, there's nothing quite so awe-inspiring as a group of Grey Knight Terminators awash in a sea of enemies and still giving as good as they get =). Also, on that note, I'd recommend Holocaust for your GM. You'll be outnumbered pretty much all the time, and against assaulty foes ('nids, for instance) those extra hits can keep you from being overwhelmed. Just a thought =).
