I think theres a couple of 1,500 BA lists floatin in this forum right now but mine is, uhm mine so it rocks. At first I thought I'd play to the BA's strength and go assaulty, but realized they could never be as good as more specialized races, but maybe I could min/max my death company with small assault squads. That also looked pretty poor, and cheesy. I decided a more balanced approach would be best, and strengthened my anti-tank.
Assault Squad w/ Powerfist
Assault Squad w/ Powerfist
Terminator Squad w/ Assault Cannon
Death Company x6 w/ jump packs
3x Melta Attack Bikes (one per squad)
Devistator squad w/ 4 missile launchers
Take all comers type list. A little predilection for assault, but not enormously so. I can possibly use this is a counter assault army in some circumstances and shoot em up. Very few vehicles as I believe all marines lists were ment to be.
I like the attack bikes (I have a similar list with attack bikes) but I think in the BA you're limited to a minimal amount of troops as it is, so I don't like the terminator squad. For half the game, they will be out of range against any kind of shooty force and anyone who really wants to, can blow away terminators with a turn or two of shooting. They just seem too expensive for my taste.
I usually don't like Terminators either as they make good targets for bieng big, lumbering bags of points. HOWEVER, getting a free Death Company Marine helps ameliorate the cost of said Terminators. I wanted some element of my army that could shoot and Terminators fill a dual role in shooting and being tough in assault as well. Being able to Deep Strike against shooty lists also increases they're potential survivability and tactical capacity in a situation like you mentioned. All in all I decided they make a good addition in a BA list, tho not nessicarily every other Marine Chapter.
I DO however feel the lack of wounds in this list.. >_< My regular force Tau seemed more survivable.
Melta Attack Bikes are the s***!
It's not a large army but really small either. It's got a healthy static shooting component you can deploy in cover and the rest of the army is fast. The headcount shouldn't be much of a problem.
For the rest it's a solid list.
I didn't think of that, we play with so much terrain (or maybe I'm just afraid of landing on terrain or the opponent) that I never think to deep strike them. It's not that they are more expensive than normal termies, I've just never been a big fan of the terminator. I am thinking of using them in my Space Wolf army though, but I can get 3 assault cannons on them ~ that makes them worth it to me.
considering the new dwarf list entrie ive actually gone off BA, however I do understand the need for the change, the char updates etc were in desperate need not to mention half of their rules are now obsolete with the latest rule book.
the upside of all this is the awesome new lists that crop up!
now in a 1500 BA list i feel your lack of armour may be an issue, have you considered subbing the whirlie for a dread? im not a fan of whilies and i love dreads so maybe thats just me
also, you might want to consider taking a second chaplain, with a flashy thunderhammer and commit your anti tank into fast speedy combat adn rid yourself of ponderous termies that are a point sink, in addition to rending DC smashing people with powerarmoured combatiness will show khorne whose boss!!
but aside from my ramblings i think your list is a solid A. adn could give any army a big bite size chunk of fear
I was really trying to stay away from any armor assets, only taking a whirlwind hoping I can hide it well enough that it wont get shot. Like I said I'm a tau player, so it may just be my past experiences and better vehicle options coloring that opinion but I have a real poor opinion of space marine vehicles. I don't have the love for vehicles (especially the dreadnaught) that many have, but agree it looks badass. >_< Even terminators are giving me uhm, misgivings. I dunno, veterans? Another troop choise?
