Hybrid IG - Back in the saddle list 2000

    Hi Folks,

I've been kinda busy for a while and am just getting back into 40K. Lo and behold, they went ahead and released 6th Ed while I wasn't looking. Now with new rulebook in-hand, I'm offering up my first new list for consideration. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

    HQ:

    CCS: 4x Plasma, Chimera: Multilaser/HF
    Elite:

Marbo (Mainly for fun factor, there are probably better places for these points at 2k.)

    Troops:

Veteran Squad: 3x Meltagun, Demolitions, Grenadiers, Chimera

Veteran Squad: 3x Meltagun, Demolitions, Grenadiers, Chimera

Veteran Squad: 3x Meltagun, Demolitions, Grenadiers, Chimera
(Grenadiers was chosen to deal with being dismounted and summarily chewed up by bolter fire)

Infantry Platoon: (hide in imperial bastion)
    PCS: 4x GL
    IS: Flamer, Lascannon
    IS: Flamer, Lascannon

    Fast Attack:

    Vendetta Gunship

    Vendetta Gunship

Scout Sentinel Squadron: 2x Autocannon, HK

    Heavy Support:

    LR Demolisher: Hull HF

    LR Demolisher: Hull HF

Collossus: Hull HB, Camo Nets (fluffy, not required)

    Fortifications:

    Imperial Bastion: Quadgun, 4x HB

Praise the Emperor and pass the promethium!

grain of salt with my comments/suggestions.

You could afford to trade out some melta for more plasma if you wanted as plasma has gotten to be about on par with melta in terms of use (trade-off, can always shoot up to 24" though only +1 to damage chart instead of melta +2).

Also, a problem of pushing forward with transports to deliver meltaguns is they're more vulnerable to enemy anti-tank weapons (melta range also shortened slightly by about 2.5", as transports can only move 6", disembark 6" and shoot). In the current edition, it seems the best tanks are the high-armored long-range weapons platforms.

Marbo is still great, with wound allocation starting at the model closest to the shooter, he can pop up behind units and sniper important models hiding on the sides.

May want to experiment with HB sponsons on your Russes as well, as they can always at least snapfire now. Additionally, weapon destroyed results are randomized now as well, so more guns means less chance that the cannon is destroyed.

I love the Colossus, been using one myself since IG got this 'dex. They don't always hit, but when they do, they make a huge difference, and forget about it if you get 2-3 hits in the first few turns, it's definitely a game changer when you get lucky with the scatter die. Goes double for 6th ed as wound allocation starts where the blast is centered, so if you hit a SM captain, he has to take all the hits first (with 2+ 'look out sirs' but there's no downside to those, still going to kill somebody).

...A blog that's mostly about Infinity, but sometimes other stuff too.

Platoon flamers won't achieve much. They will be better as GLs. I would drop a sentinel for a SWS with flamers to go in the vendettas.

Hull HF on demolishers isn't reccomended. They should never get that close. As the enemy get to within 20" start reversing otherwise you use the flamer once and die to krak grenades or a PF next turn since they hit you on a 3+ now.

I prefer the defence line to the bastion. It cannot be destroyed and you can hold objectives with units in them unlike bastions.

I'm trying the Bastion the same way you are, only I went with sniper rifles on top. Can't say how it performs yet; it's still on order.

Grenadiers seems a waste if the Vets aren't also using plasma. You could do a lot with those points. Maybe a mortar HWS hiding behind the Bastion, or CCS advisors, or a Primaris psyker?

Only thing I would change is put grenade launchers in the infantry squads.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I took some time to reparse the rules and found something interesting. At 2000 points and above you can take a second primary detachment. Think of it as a second force org chart with the same restrictions as a your first primary. I was tinkering with it and came up with this.

    Detachment 1 1190 points
    HQ

    CCS: 4x Plasma, Carapace

    Elite
    Marbo

    Troops
    Vet Squad: 3x Melta, Chimera
Vet Squad: 3x Melta, Harker, Demolitions, HB

    Fast
    Vendetta: HB Door Gunners
    Vendetta: HB Door Gunners

    Heavy
    Colossus
    Colossus

    Fortification
    Imperial Bastion: Quadgun, 4x HB

    Detachment 2 810 points
    HQ
    CCS: 4x Plasma, Carapace

    Troops
    Vet Squad: 3x Melta, Chimera
    Vet Squad: 3x Melta, Chimera

    Heavy

    LR Demolisher: Hull HF
    LR Demolisher: Hull HF

    Opinions and suggestions?

Don't know about Harker with Melta Guns Veterans I'd give them ranged firepower like Grenade Launchers or Plasma Guns might even take a Heavy Bolter.

It looks good but I to am worried about the range of the melta guns in harkers squad.

You're basically using 2 detachment only for 4 heavies, detached? you can do better than that if you want to push the boundaries.
I don't use Vendettas or Valks...if Guardsmen were meant to fly, the Emperor would have given them wings. (343rd Mordian)

Grenade Launchers or scrounge the points for plasma would be the other options.
