Default 1750 Friendly Campaign

Heyo. So in addition to the competitive prize-money campaign that I'm taking part in (Managed to squeeze myself into 1st place this week), a local crew at my university are starting up a campaign based on the Planetary Empires supplement.

This is one of the very rare lists that will be slightly tailored. Here is what I know is taking part: 4 Eldar Players, 1 Chaos Marines, 1 Space Wolves, 1 Ork, 1 Space Marine. The overwhelming number of Pysker heavy lists and Eldar players who absolutely love Rune of Warding makes me very wary of taking my usually Psyker Battle Squad as they'll probably end up torching myself.

The way we are starting the campaign is that everyone gets 5 tiles and gets to choose their starting specialty tiles. So all of the Eldar are taking Command Bastions (1/2/3 units have a 50% chance of getting ANY single Universal Special Rule for free). Personally I am leaning on taking one as well just so I can negate the crazy benefits it gives them (only a 50% chance one unit to gain a special rule as opposed to three units). Though I'm very partial to the manufactorium which will give me a possible 50 /100/150 points over my opponents in a battle.

So here is my list to handle the heavy psyker prescence, mixed mech/infantry lists, and a bit of fluff fun stuff as well.

HQ
  • Company Command Squad - x4 Grenade Launchers, Chimera (Hull Heavy Flamer) - 125
  • Inquisitor Lord - Psychic Hood, x3 Warriors w/ Heavy Bolters - 140

CCS is cheap, mobile, can threaten horde, light vehicles, and MCs, and can baby sit the Platoon Long enough for them to kill some transports off.

I'm honestly not expecting many deep striking units and I'll have enough vehicles and stuff around that I'm not worried about taking mystics. The I-Lord is for the Psychic Hood and the Dakka, if you guys feel I need the mystics, I'll take them. This squad goes in a line squad's chimera. Though about a sage and pyscannon as well, but I don't know if I like a 180 point units sitting there.

Elites
  • Eversor Assassin - xx

Troops
  • Veteran Squad - x3 Meltaguns, Chimera (Hull Heavy Flamer) - 155
  • Veteran Squad - x3 Meltaguns, Chimera (Hull Heavy Flamer) - 155
  • Veteran Squad - x3 Plasmaguns, Chimera (Hull Heavy Flamer) - 170
  • Infantry Platoon
    • Platoon Command Squad - x4 Grenade Launchers, Chimera(Hull Heavy Flamer) - 105
    • Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Chimera(Hull Heavy Bolter) - 115
    • Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
    • Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65

The heavy bolter chimera goes to the inquisitor. Squads will combine as needed. PCS is cheap, mobile, and survivable.

Fast Attack

Heavy Support
  • Demolisher - Hull Heavy Flamer - xxx
  • Demolsiher - Hull Heavy Flamer - xxx
  • Leman Russ Executioner - Plasma Cannon Sponsons - 230

At this point I think the Executioner is overkill, but the 5 shots mean that some stuff will be on target. That and I don't have any model other model I can use to even proxy another Heavy Support choice. He should be fun and scare the crap out of people.

Wish I could scrap some stuff together and make a pair of Hydras to take care of skimmers, but nada. Anyone have suggestion for a dirt cheap way to quickly do that?

Total: 1750

There we go, not a list I'd take to a competition, but something that could be fun.

No idea what I'd do with the 50-150 points I have coming my way in a game. Really the only models I have left are stormtroopers, pysker battle squad, another chimera, 3 sentinels, and Grey Knight Termies.

I do kind of miss my sentinels, they do things like blow up predators and battle wagons when they outflank.

Ideas at all? I'm not looking for a perfect list with this one.

Looks OK. Why not take a psycannon on the =I=? IIRC they ignore invun. saves, useful vs. seers.

The psycannon would be an excellent choice and I'd give him a sage for BS5 as well. Unfortunately that adds 40 points.

Oh, and to the mods, can you punt this thread into the army list section please? I had thought that I was in the right forum, my bad.

You could take off the plasma sponsons, I rarely find myself needing them. 3 should be enough. Either that or take the chimera off the plasma vets and give them a "survival" doctrine like camo cloaks and sit them in cover.

If you're going to be up against lots of psykers, then why not take a Culexus Assasin?

True, five plasma cannons is overkill. Though since this is the only tank of that type in the army, I like having the redundancies in case the main cannon gets blown to hell. This is also one of those cases where I want this tank to be a huge target so my veterans can have fun zipping around the board unmolested while the Exec gets shot at.

I'm not so keen on leaving the veterans on foot, the scary stuff that they'll be targeting would make sure to stay out of range or out of sight. They've saved me before as well by rapid firing marines off an objective or something to the effect.

All good options to save points, though, I'll consider them

Though about it. Only things are I don't know how many psykers are actually going to be fielded. Farseer and a handful of warlocks are to be expected, I suppose. In either case, though, I find the culexus too but he's too much of a specialist and doesn't hold up in combat too well as compared to an Eversor or Calidus. Yes he can kill the psyker, but then he just dies when everything else attacks.

then go all guard. no allies vendettas and a CCS with 3x plasma and MoO would really help this list with long range firepower. and where the hell is marbo? ^^.
thanks

Not the MoO, I regret having converted this guy up, I use him as an OoF nowadays instead.

a_n, not every guard army needs a Marbo. He's not omnipresent. Yet.

The mono guard army might be an idea though.

Don't have any Vendettas unfortunatley so that option is out the window.

Heheh, I ran into the same problem converting my own master of ordinance. I only used him in two games. Granted he always made more than his points worth back (he managed to kill a raptor lord and several raptors and marines). He's just too random for my tastes.

Marbo is definitely an option

I can see if some of the other member of the group will let me borrow some stuff to proxy in. The Inquisitor and assassin would just add a random element to spice the game up a bit and do something weird.

mono guard. i don't undestand. sorry for my over enthusiatic post. ow yea. sorry hockeyman i forgot you didn't have vendetta, valkyires. oof. actually works against you he helps reseve/deep strike armies. because we all know deep strike armies if they literally all land at once they make the most impact. and delaying gives us less turns to deal with them.
thanks
