Default Help! I'm loosing interest for IG!

Well with unexpected changes, I have currently been loosing steady interest in IG, mostly because they seem like a huge daunting task to paint, More or less the scheme I'm going for is really painstaking. I have proudly collected Emperium armies for at least 10 years and I'm quite shocked to see the strategy changing with the guard.

I'm wondering if you have any advice for my army that I've almost finished collecting and
yet lays unpainted to my standard.

1 Command
2 Storm Trooper Squads, 1 melta squad and 1 plasma squad
2 Jr Officers both with plasma
I have two squads IG
I have 1 Chimera
1 Leman Russ Battle Tank

Is there anything I might try to do to bulk up my army?

I'm also just considering of just flat out changing the paint scheme to an easier color
to paint. Any Ideas?

Thanks, Dj A.k.

If you think painting Imperial Guard is daunting, paint over 600 Night Goblins for a horde. It took me two months of painting in my spare time at work(I'm my own boss, so I get alot of stuff I want to done.) and my time at my Mom's house.

(I live at work, most of the time sleeping behind the counter...I get as much out of the building as I can!)

Anyway...

If you're tired of painting Imperial Guard, take a break from them and work on something else.

While painting the Night Goblins, I worked on some Tau because I was tired of painting green.

So I suggest taking a break and working on something else until you get tired of painting your side project. When you get tired of that, you'll be ready to go back to IG. Before you know it, you'll have two armies done. Double the fun.

Hope this helps,
Andrew-

I would suggest picking up some Grey Knight allies, both terminator and power armor. It makes your army much more flexible and provides you new painting challenges. That being said, you also need a bigger IG army. You would have to take the same troops every time! Buy more units for flexibility's sake.

The Goblins were hard...but rewarding in the end.

Exterminators were a variant of the Leman Russ. They had a Twin-Linked Autocannon on the turret. It was a nice tank.

I still have the rules for it in the old 'Guard codex...

i am having exactly the same problems! i also have a scarily similar list, although i have a couple more squads of infantry, a squad of ratlings and a Hellhound.

I would agree with a couple of the posters on the thread, painting something else does break up the monotony of painting all those drab guarsmen- i started painting a couple of units of dwarfs for a change and have returned to my IG refreshed. Ive also gone down the route of Daemonhunter allies, really nice minis (check out the GK termies mmm) an interesting list and lots of scope for modelling etc- they also give your IG some close combat capabilities and you could use one of your units of stormtroopers as Inquisitorial ST and mount them in a rhino.

more chimeras would be cool as well as an armoured fist squad. as for paint cheme i like the simple black armour and grey uniform. no frills but it looks good and you can as im doing now add extra detail when your satisifed with your army aka enahnced camoflague pattern

Geoms suggestions is spot on, and something I started out doing myself when I first started my IG army and knew what I wanted scheme wise, but didn't have the painting skills at the time to pull off all the detail. Just paint a standard colour scheme to your army at first to get them to 'table top standard', its best to do groups of 5-10 at a time so you dont get bored. Mix it up with some tanks in between squads, and before you know it you will have all of your mini's painted and ready for gaming. I think getting your army painted and onto the table is important in letting you 'connect' with your army, hopefully this will then inspire you to go the extra mile with your painting.
