Each to his own. If I had the cash I'd be all over the forge world minis.
Agreed. I'd have a super-heavy tank just to have one:shifty:

Has anyone used the Forge World vehicles/aircraft to good effect? The only fliers I've ever seen were a pair of Ork "fighta-bomerz" at a megabattle. For that matter, I've only seen one Baneblade, a Reaver titan, and the two planes, and all of these were at the same megabattle, now that I think on it.

Now I am getting really interested in elysian drop troops, I took a look at IA 1 and found the armoured battlegroup to have support from the Imperial navy, but I had to take mandatory tanks which is not what I wanted at all. So the rules are in IA 3? I want to field a Navy Heavy army, do they fair well in your experiences? I just like the idea of attacking on all directions with a lot of plane vehicles.

The armorued battlegroup is varriable, you can take a slamander as a HQ or an artillery fwd observer (which is still a salamander command vehicle)
You can take AF platoon HQs as elites, which allows you to take AF squasd as troops
You can thereby produce an armoured battle group with all the fliers and not a single Russ in sight

IA3 contains the list for elysians, which has been discussed above, there are NO tanks available on the field (although griffens and Bassis can provide off the field support.

But If you use IA1 and read the section for each flier carefully you will see that you can play them in standard codex armies, from memory most of them take a single HS slot, so if you want lightenings, thunderbolts or god forbid, marauders/marauder destroyers, you can filed these but only 3 total. Vultures also use HS slots for both codex and Elysian lits
Valkyries can be used with codex armies as per IA1 to replace chimeras, hence if you take mechanised doctrines you can have your whole damned army mounted in valks, but points wise there is a limit (these invarriably cost 200-230 points each, plus the cost of the squad they transport, it is very difficult to valkyrie mount a 1000 points army) plus valks are not particularly effective, their limited weaponry means they are not mass killers, dropping troops off leaves you exposed, picking up /moving troops is even worse
