Rep Power: 90 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't really think that they are terrible now, I'm just disappointed in all of our new units. I wanted to USE them! I really like my IG. One of the GREAT things to come out of the new codex were the doctrines. I use several of them, especially sharpshooters and iron discipline. I'm going to write another one of these, maybe tonight, lauding all of the great things about the IG. Perhaps I shouldn't have started off with my anti IG thoughts.... <_< |

I would have to say that the majority of my wins come from Tyranids. It's mostly because the two armies are totally opposite. Nids WANT CC and Guardsmen desperately don't want CC, and the Nids have the disadvantage because IG can shoot like crazy before they get there. My majority of losses come from the ultimate in cheesiness called Black Templar. I shoot the crap out of them, they fail their LD test and they get to charge me for failing a LD test. Must be nice. I fail a LD test and my commissar executes my CO. (figuratively) |

@Rondogg: re: Commisar's LD: the official, GW FAQ states that it does count for the Ld rule / vox rule. It's a fact mate. ![]() @MrMeeper: the only models which were in the old codex and aren't any more are the Griffon, and the LR Exterminator, and both can be fielded through IA. Ogryns are no worse than before, and TVR does not hinder their use in the slightest. Commisars have one less attack, but that shouldn't put anyone off using them. @311: If you want an army with rock hard CC units, you shouldn't be playing guard mate! That's like playing Orks, but wanting a small, elite force. Or playing Dark Angels and wanting a horde army. Regarding playing with TVR...I would definitely recommend using them. They are faster, more balanced, and on the whole, they help IG out a bit, meaning your tanks aren't just expensive turkeys rolling around with huge targets painted on them. Ignoring them just now is a little silly; 4th Ed is coming, and the vehicle rules will be based on TVR (If not TVR word for word) so surely it makes sense to familarise yourself with them now? VB |

This "VonBloodbath" fellow sounds like a GW lackey (or overly giddy sales monkey). You guys' complaints pretty much said it all. The special units are out, the horde is in. So much for diversity. (I realize there are still stormies, vets and rats, but still) I could really use a "how to be your own Soviet infantry commander" instructional book, because that's what were looking at. For example: large numbers of expendable infantry; slow, expensive air support; over priced, political units (commisar, priest, techn.); and specific doctrines of war that ultimatly only work togeather for the base infantry, but cost alot (some anyway). GW I say this to you, "Thank you commrade Stalin."

hhmmmm, well i do agree with the uselessness of the new units, but i never used ogryns, rather more troops or another TANK! i love the doctrines, sharpshooter, iron discipline( or hardened fighters get them mixed up) are awesome. the hellhound is way better(as in my other post) and the new hvy weapons platoons and secial weapon, AND the vet squads are great. i would bitch about how they took out the griffon (worst tank ever) and the exterminator (fairly ok), the priest, phsykers and the techpreist but im tired. so to sum it up its fine just play ull find that ur gonna win way more battles than bfore |

Pick up a charter approved. You get the TVR, TAR, and VDR, plus FAQ's. Not much for guard, but it's worth a read cause you get the armored company. Leman Russ as troop choices... fun.

Hey VB, the IG CAN have a rock hard CC unit. They're called Grey Knight Space Marines. My only complaint is that my Ogryn cost as much as a Grey Knight SM with very few of the same benifits, and I would like to put my decently painted models of them on the playing surface. |

What I am is realistic and honest...sorry if you can't handle that... If I really didn't like something GW did...I would either adapt some house rules, or play another game (there are plenty of other good rulesets out there, if you are of a mind). What I wouldn't do is whinge incessantly about it. This isn't meant as an attack at anyone here specifically, but it's not cool to selectively pick and choose bits of an argument, and ignore the responses which you can't counter. My point is very little has changed for the worse for IG; namely the Commisar's loss of attack, and the loss of the two tanks mentioned; and THEY Can be included through IA. That's it, that's all. Everything else is either the same as before, or better. Get over it. I can understand disappointment in the new stuff, but it is new, and so is, at worst, a step sideways, not a step back. @HOurglass: another good one is Rough Riders...certain of the Doctrines (I'm thinking Warrior Weapons amongst others, but I'm at work, so can't check) can be applied just to Roughriders, not the rest of your army. It can make for some nice combos. VB. | |
