I think there's a weakness within the 40K rules favouring CC...there should be a difference between close assault (i.e. shooting within 12") and CC, but there isn't, not really. If you get within 12", your opponent will charge you, even if he's not CC specific. (e.g. Tactical Marines will Charge IG, as they know they will win)... IMHO that's the biggest flaw with 40k. The TAR go someway to redressing that by having you lose the attack for charging if you fire, and forcing you to charge the unit that you shot at (if you did)... I've seen some optional rules for "firefights"...like in the last version of Epic, where you resolve close range firing in a similar manner to CC...it's interesting and would make a good optional rule, I think. the exterminator is still legal, you just have to use the old rules from the old codex. you can even back it up by saying your army comes from a forge world or something like that

Does anyone else but me find this scenario sliiiiightly anal? "Oh, you only have the old codex and not the IA Book? Sorry, then you can't use the tank" "But... the rules, stats, points etc are all the same!?" "Sorry, gotta have IA vol1" Not exactly a problem for me, I have the IA book (which I think is a complete load of crap, considering how many filler pages it has... I mean, who wants eight pages of computer art of a chimera chassis in different colours?) The actual content of the book is great, but that many filler pages are just... apalling. They could atleast have some pics with the actual tank models - but nooooo... /Phreedh |
