Rep Power: 48 ![]() | First of all, I must say that I'm new at this so I apologize if this is very newbie question. I've read my Codex for the Imperial Guard and have read the Rule Book (going through it a second and thrid time though), but I'm confused on a matter right now. When you take the Doctrines, you have to use a choice for Restricted Troops to 'buy-back' the use of certain units. Here is my question: If I don't take the Heavy Weapon's Platoon or the Special Weapon Squads, does this mean I can not field ANY of those weapons? (ex. Mortors, Lascannon, etc...). I don't want to field an entire platoon of them, but I do want some on my units/squads to back up my General Infrantry. I wanted to double check, I believe that is what is meant by it, but I wanted to be sure. I don't want to not be able to field some of those things. Thanks for the help in the clarification in advance. |

you can ALWAYS take Heavy/Special weapons in your line squads, and u can take Heavy weapon squads listed under tour HQ chices in the front. U cant take special weapon squads(as in 6 guys with 3 sniper rifles) OR Heavy weapon Platoons(as in the Heavy support choice) if u dont take the doctrine.

Ah, okay. *sigh of relief* I must have read the Codex 10 times, and that part I just couldn't make sense. Although, so much for having those Heavy Bolters flanking my HQ Units, *shrug* oh well. Thanks so much for the clarification. Now, off to work on my 500 point list. |

Okay, I've got another question, but I didn't feel it warrented creating another post so I'll just keep using this one. I'm still working on my 500 pts list and screwed by self up, now I can't remember which is correct. For Infranty Platoon, you have to have a Platoon Command Squad and the actual Squads. In my Codex it shows that I can take 2-5 Infranty Squads at X Value + wp + upg. Does that particular point cost cover the squads and the command squad, or do I have to purchase both: 1st Platoon Command Squad = XX Pnts 1st Platoon's 1st, 2nd, 3rd Sqauds = XX pts total. For a total cost of XXX pts. I orginally thought it was all one cost, but after re-reading, I'm not sure anymore. Thanks again for the help! |

You do have to purchase the command squad separately. It is purchased from the command squad entry, in the HQ section, using the point values listed. Be advised, though, that you can only take a junior officer in your infantry platoon command squads.

Okay, in regards to general 'Infantry Platoon'. I just want to know if I'm reading this right: It know that I have to purchase my command squad, but for the general infrantry, it shows that I can have between 2-5 squads XX pts + weapons + upgrades. My current question is; Is that a fixed cost per squad, or is it a cost for the unit itself, regardless if I take the minimum squad amount or if I take 5. My wife and I are in disagreement about it, I think it's the latter, but I want to be sure. We just started playing and we want to make sure we understand all the specifics. By the way, if your curious, she plays the Tyrinids. |

Let's say a Command Squad costs Y points (the Officer + weapons + upgrades) and each squad costs X points (The squad + Weapons + upgrades) A bare minimum platoon is... Y + X + X In general, my line squads cost about 85 points, after weapons and upgrades. My command squads usually cost about 60. So my usual platoon would be 60+85+85 = 230.Th Of course, I could take up to five squads, so... 60+85+85+85+85+85 = 485. So the cost X + Weapons + Upgrades is the cost for each squad. |

GunTAG is right. You must take ten guardsmen in a squad. Meaning 9 grunts and a sergeant. The base cost listed for that squad, plus weapons, plus upgrades is the cost for ONE squad. This means that if you take another squad in that platoon (you have to have at least two), then you must add the base cost again, along with any more weapons and upgrades you take in the new squad.
