    Q1 Infantry Squad Heavy Weapon

I’m currently building a guard army and I am interested in two things that are of key importance within my army and its construction which I want to ask about on this forum.

Question 1: What heavy weapon would you recommend for infantry squads to be equipped with that would allow them to attack tanks as well as infantry? Explain your answer?

I prefer Missile Launchers in infantry squads as they are easy to mount on 25mm bases!
The weapons however for me are fairly equal, statistically the Missile Launcher is better against MEQs, plus it can instakill T4 and touch heavier armour.

Statistically the Autocannon has the edge against anything with worse than a 3+ save and vehicles with AV12 or lower.

So really the question is: what is the main role of your infantry? The main role of my infantry is to fire at marines and not have pain-in-the-ass 60mm bases, so they are equipped with missile launchers!

I would recommend Autocannons in Command squads, and Missile Launchers or Lascannons in Infantry squads. Your anti-infantry really comes in the forum of massed firepower, no matter the weapon (yes, even the lowly Lasgun!) and in your tanks. I would rather use a krak missile against most infantry than the frag missile, especially with the abundance of MEQ lists these days, and the Lascannon performs just as well (better against things like Deathwing, etc.).

    Just my two cents.

i would say autos in infantry squads, just for the fire rate and str, its high enough in both to be a threat to infantry, and high enough to threaten most tanks, either that or lascannons

My guess is that a mix of the two would be "the best".
Autocannons are personal favourites of mine, their ability to shoot twice negates the average BS of the guardsmen...or grot. But the Missile Launcher has a higher Strength and AP, two good qualities to have when (or if) you hit what you are aiming for.

I prefer Missle Launchers in my troop squads and Autocannons in my Fire-support HQ squads.

Like previously mentioned MLs are great against MEQs and heavier vehicles, while Autocannons rock against medium vehicles. Autocannons are generally a better anti-vehicle gun than missle launchers, so I like to have my anti-vehicle fire focusses, and no wasted lasgun shots on armour.

    Cheers, DH

Neither , nothing beats a heavy bolter or lascannon, and the only heavy weapon that belongs in a command squad is a mortar . Nuf said' ^_^

I wouldn't even put a mortar in a command squad. mass groupings of mortars or not at all. I would also say a even mix of the two, both are good for line squads as heavy weapon options.

Keep them even with your squads, 3 autocannons, 3 missile launchers.
Heavy bolters are alright, but they need more punch in my opinion. I save them for tanks, command squads, heavy weapon platoons, fire support squads, and a few squads., same with lascannons but even less with squads.

Personally I keep heavy weapons out of my line infantry squads altogether. I'd rather spend the money in fire support squads, so that my infantry don't have any dilemna's such as move or shot with that heavy weapon - they can stay focussed on mass-lasgun firing or advancing.

My gripe with support squads is the fact that there are only three buffer wounds before you start removing heavy weapons... I'd rather have 8-9 buffer wounds.
