I'm a rather new player to WH40k, and was introduced to this site several months ago by Dedsquirrl. I've just finally gotten around to actually exploring, since I'm really trying to hunt down an active online community that actually covers the Guard, my army of choice.
I actually started playing at the end of March this year, and have been on a sort of overdrive ever since. My Imperial Guard (1st Battalion, 72nd Armored Infantry) are a bit more armor focused, though not a fully mechanized unit. I'm trying to use as much 'military realism' as I can for organization and fluffy purposes, since I find it more enjoyable that way. Of course, due to a minor obsession with Battletech/Mechwarrior, I've taken to building sentinels left and right.....
Towards the end May, I needed a slight change of pace, (I'd been going non-stop for three months painting IG almost every night! I needed a life!), so I've taken to doing a Tyranid Hive on the side (Hive Fleet Osiris.). Sadly, I like the paint jobs on my bugs better than my infantry, so I'm going to have to go back and redo the camo on them...
But anyway, I'm just blabbing now!
A bit of actual stuff about myself, I'm an aircraft mechanic, and I've recently (as of June) been re-stationed out to the Sinai Peninsula. Finding a WH40k game out in the middle of an egyptian desert is not easy, let me tell you! So, I'm going to be focusing on improving my painting/converting/modeling skills over the next year.
I should hush up now, so, yeah...HI!
Hey hey hey, welcome to LO! Here, have an introductory
Once more welcome to the site, and if any of those Nids on the streets give you any grief, come contact me and I'd be glad to part with some of my famed bugspray.
Thank you for the warm welcome!
The Repainting of the Guard won't be too hard. I went with a Desert scheme and the colors seem to be pretty on-target. Unfortunately, they're also a single color, instead of an actual camouflage scheme, so, I'm going to be sparing myself the trouble of entirely redoing the painting and just working out a camo scheme to overlay in spots on the current uniform. It should make them look better and fluffier, and I can apply the lessons I've learned from all my guard and my 'nids to improve later guardsmen, too.
Of course, I still have to redo the Company Guidon Bearer. Looks okay, but really needs a bit of a wave in the flag so that it imparts some movement. And then there's making all the tank guidons, too....
But I digress! I've already started my Imperial Navy collection through my procurement of a Vulture Gunship that I'm painting up like a particular Hind Attack Helicopter from a nifty book series I read. It'll fit in with Kiki's Ferret Shock Troopers with their glittery pixie-stick guns (I couldn't resist a little bit of humor!) and Bun-Bun the Baneblade!
As for the bugs...well...I might see you about the spray to mop up anything the tanks dont get!
hello there, I hope you've found the nids forum. So where are you from?

I've seen it, but I've not quite strayed over there. Planning on it soon.
Teeeechnically, I'm from Norway, if you skip the interviening three generations. If you include them, I'm American, from the great state of Minnesoooooota (ya sure y'betchya! Yes, I do really talk like that sometimes.).
Hey man! Glad you found the place.
If you want to strip down those models to repaint, I have had good luck with Simple Green.
It worked fine on plastic models.
I just let them soak overnight and then worked them over with a toothbrush and warm running water and they were nice and clean and ready for a repainting.
It works even better on the metal models. The paint just sloughed right off.
Don't know if you can find Simple Green on the Sinai though.
May have to get Dalin to box you up some and ship it over.
I sent you a pm but I though you were my Space Wolf opponent when I first saw you on the forums. So disregard the PM.
Ha! Space marines! They amuse me.
Big problem with stripping my guys is the fact I used Enamels for the first 30 infantry. And that damn tank. So, what I'm going to do there is simply modify the existing camo pattering by adding some splotches to break up the outline a bit. Make it sorta similar to the early '90s desert camo used by the army.
As for the simple green..well, we use it on occasion for the aircraft, so it should be in our POL lockers. Simple green is a staple of army life!
