I happened across this site while researching Warhammer 40k. It just seems to keep popping up and be the most helpfull.
I am just getting back into it and have a couple of nice hobby shops in the Orlando area that host games. I havent played since 1993 and the Rogue trader days. I am painting up a Necrons army for the 2000pt range, and a smaller fluffy Crimson Fist force I'll spend alot more time painting in rememberance of my old army. I havent done much gaming in the past years, but continue painting on a regular basis....mostly fantasy figures that catch my eye.
Welcome to the forum Diamondsetter!
The Space Marine forum is busy, and has plenty of members that can give you help with an army. Necron forum is less busy but we definitely have a good crew there.
Make sure you take a good look over the rules. The Mods are watching.
Have a great stay!
Oh, Crimson Fists, I remember them, coolness! I like Necrons, had some for awhile. Have you collected the whole army? One thing I noticed way back when was that Necron Warriors and Immortals got chewed up by dedicated assault troops like Space Wolves. But I'm sure you'll be fine, there are all kind of optional troops now huh? Pariahs, Immortals, and Wraiths and stuff...
Oh, here's a link to the song I used to paint and daydream about Necrons to. I wonder if you will think it's good... YouTube - doubtful judgement khan super session (soul edge's theme )
Anyway, I'm happy to hear you have a couple of stores that promote the hobby and offer gaming tables to ya'! Let us know how you are doing
I dont have the whole necron army assembled yet....but i have a solid idea.........and a new codex on the way is a plus....lack of special characters outside of c'tan that are very high points. With the good stats, extra saves (orb, wbb, or fnp as possible in the future) and the ability to move quick and shoot hard is a game winning combo......I am now a newb again i know, but 3 things win wars......speed,range, and firepower. IMHO monolith, veil, and the speed of necron heavy weapons (move and shoot) is a game winner. I have a feeling my learning curve will be phase out. The main reason i chose necs is the look of the army..im a slow painter with a child, i need to enjoy painting it.
Love the site and have read many of the necron threads
I used to play on a pingpong table..........When 60-72" range was needed. The games are tight and fast now, 36" is more than enough. Games dont take 10 hours anymore either i hear.
