Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was introduced to Warhammer 40k in 2001 when I was in the Navy and stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. If any NSGA Nerd Herders are out there send me a message. It's the NSB aka Salty Grasshopper! I played most weekends when I was not deployed and other gamers were in port as well. I have a pretty complete Blood Angels army and I started to gather up pieces for a Dark Eldar army.
I enjoy all aspects of the game: collecting, painting, making army lists, playing, debating rules, strategy, victory and yes even defeat. For about six years my armies and books have been occupying the same box in which I shipped them home. Before I left Japan I gave up all my paints to people who were still there. Where I now live I don't know anybody that actually plays 40k.
Last week after jogging with my girlfried in the park we were a little bored and looking for something to do. Out of the blue she suggested that I show her how to play the game. I had shown her some of the pieces I had painted and briefly described the game about a year ago. I whipped up a general SM army for her and a DE army for myself. We played on the kitchen table with no terrain (civil war style) and did a meat ginder mission. She loved it. I let her win and that might have been a contributing factor but she genuinely enjoyed it despite the slow pace and constant rule checking. And I remembered that I did to. So I might be back.
