I started playing 40k for the first time about 3 years ago. I initially decided to play okrz, I couldnt tell you why, I think I just liked the look of them. Any way I never had very about 2 boxes of boyz and a warboss. I also never learned how to play the game.
Recently a friend of mine decided that he wanted to start playing, and since neither of us knew how to play we both went in on the "Battle of Macragge" started set. After my tyranids got throughly crushed in every mission and several battles afterwards, I decided to give my orks a shot. Well long story shot the orks did no better for me.
So the question im asking is, what army should I really commit to inorder to beat the space marines and get around those pesky 3+ armor saves?
I read on the gw website that sheer numbers should defeat the marines but, neither my nids or orkz could do the job. Maybe my tactics are wrong but I thought I was just supposed to get both of those armys into close combat as quick as I could.
Also to answer the other questions in the "Advice for new players..." thread, I'm not too big on painting (esp. the same models over and oever), and my budget for the whole army will be around $300USD.
Thanks for any help in advance.
P.S. sorry if this is too long winded I just wanted to be precise.
you should see some of the posts when we had political discussions...long winded wasn't strong enough.
mehtinks that your tactics may be wrong. or you pick the wrong sort of stuff for your army. you did pick some unforgiving beginner amries, when your friend has got what is basically the n00b army.
do you use terrain? do you use VP? do you do certain objectives? what kind of force are we looking at here?
there are lots of ways to change the balance in one of these games. you should try playing more games, and it may help you get some valuable experience.the most important thing: don't give up on an army just because of a few bad hitches. i'm the most feared player at my club, and there were a few points where i just couldn't seem to do anything right in a game. It's kinda why i like the army i have now, because while they may not always get everything right, i have fun playing with them, even when they lose.
Yeah, this is excellent! TY Angel of Rust!
Graktoof the vile, victor of 1000 battles, partial credit to 1000 more, and sore loser about the other 8000...
The games we're playing arent very big can be more than 500 points. We use terrain and most of the time the objective is just a fight to the death. I should have mentioned in my original post that I am definately going to buy a new army and I just want one that isn't so focused on close combat. Both the orks and the tyranids have very low bs and I'd like it if my shooting phase wasn't useless. I noticed everyone on here say the space marines are the easy way out, but I'm starting to think I might as well just play them, or maybe chaos to mix it up a little. I also considered necron and tau but I think with either of them I'm doing just the opposite of what I, relying on shooting and making close combat uneffective.
I have no intention of "giving up" on either army, I just want something a little easier for starting.
