I've got tons of models and tons of different armies/races. I love to paint them and I really enjoy all the models.
I have ork, SM, Imp guard, Kroots, and DH. None of them are completely big enough for an army and a legal one. I'm trying to figure out which army is EASIEST to learn with, I like all the ones I have so it wouldnt matter. I've noticed SM are the most common and they are like the poster race for WH40k, are they probably the most noob friendly race to begin with? I've never played a game btw -_-, just tons and tons of modeling and making terrain.
i would say the easiest is the necrons, less stuff you have to worry about buying your guys as upgrades and so forth. SM are cool but are highly over played and rated. i just started about 3 months ago with the necrons and i am still learning the generaal rules but know what works best in the army and dont have to worry about keeping track of all the up grades i gave my guys(ie. SM, Chaos, or pretty much any other army)
hope this helps
i would say to try to get the hands on a rulebook (or loan it). or get into contact with an other player that's willing to help you set up a small list. i don't know what models you have of the armies. i myself had the opportunity to play a little introduction game just using a dreadnought, 1 tactical squad( missile launcher, flamer) and a landspeeder against a tactical squad, whirlwind and landspeeder.
don't really worry about the special equipment or required organisation at first. just get a feeling with the basic rules. the opponent will hopefully be your talking rulebook for this one.
start small, think the easiest is to hold a little match against the same type of army(sort of trail by fire) .
That way you don't mix up starts of different races, which will only be more confusing.
Can I get some more opinions on this? I have the rulebook BTW, I've read it a couple of times as well.
Tell us what models you own and then we can help you from there.
watch a couple games...play a couple games then choose....
but i would have to say SMurfs look like your best option by what you have...
Find out when your local GW store plays WH40k, and go watch afew games for the next few weeks and start deciding. Research and pick one you like (fluff, playstyle ect) not by how easy they are, because no matter what army this game still isn't easy to learn. Tho some armies are more difficult than others, but it shouldnt be enough to stop you from choosing them if you like fluff and playstyle of it.
Space Wolves- 4,000 pts
Dwarves in progress
Well, out of the ones youve already got a basis in, the Space Marines are probably going to be your best bet, for a couple reasons. First, they're the most balanced army out there. Makes it easy to ease your way into the game without having to deal with alot of wierd rules or frustrating disadvantages. Second, you dont need alot of them to start playing. Pointswise Space Marines are expensive, but well worth it. Third, almost all the players out there are playing or have played Space Marines at some point in the past, so they can help walk you through your first couple of games. That said, make sure you pick an army that suits YOU, otherwise it wont be any fun to play.
Again, I stand by my earlier comments. SM's are easy to learn the rules with, if for no other reason than the sheer number of players available to coach you through the first couple of games. Plus they have a fairly basic weaponry loadout set for initial games, and as you get more into advanced rules, you can have a bit of everything from tanks to psychic powers. Remind me again how the SM's ARNT a good army to start with?
