What should i buy just to start out, Should i buy a Space Marine Battleforce or just buy separate units?
Or maybe something completely different.

First of, welcome to LO. Second, I would recomend buying the rulebook, going to your local gaming store and asking for an introduction game or the likes. When picking an army, you should like the look of the models, and their playability. Space marines are a good starting point for a beginner to learn the game. The battleforces are good value for money, and would be a good foundation for any expansions. Put simply, go and play/watch a game or 2, find an army you like the look of and see what happens. Cheers,
Thanks for the reply. I will follow that advice.
As a side not, you may want to consider another army. marines are by far the most common amry, so take a good look at each of them and then decide.
If you are not 100% set on space marines I would go for something else. Unless you have a small group of friends who play and none of them play marines they are too common. I guess I just think it is lame to see two different blood angels armies fight, or even two marine armies for that matter...I think the best way to do would be to post how you want to fight and then choose an army with our help...an army that suits you is much better than a marine list tailored to your wants in my opinion.
Just pick what army you like best, oh well if its Space Marines so be it, as long as you dont mind having a common army, and if you do just make a special unique chapter.
But before you buy a battleforce, go play at your local store. Read the codex's there like I did for months before starting (you dont have to read them for months) But watch people ,try and see which playstyle suits you and look for an army that represents your playstyle. And if you like their fluff ect.
As for price, there is no army thats alot cheaper than any other. So dont base it off price because either way its expensive as hell.
Space Wolves- 4,000 pts
Dwarves in progress
My friend has the codex and none of them play SM. They play Tau, 2 Elders and necrons. I will probly play at the local game shop. I will look around, but really the army im looking for is just shear power (and that look good lol).
Welcome to LO!!
Quite simply, Yes! Buy the battleforce.
It is good value for money and will give you an excellent foundation upon which to build.
There is very little, if anything, in the Battleforce that you will not use no matter whaich Chapter you choose or design.
Always go for the best value you can get, and the Battleforce is good value.
Terminator Based Custom Chapter
Welcome to Librarium Online, I look forward to seeing you on the forum. Especially if you read and follow the rules...Originally Posted by therealzero
Space Marines are great to start with, relatively forgiving, but by no means a invincible army. They take skill and insight to get the best from them. And the Battleforce is an excellent investment too.
You can't ignore Space Marines, you will certainly fight against them many times and its an excellent idea to get a taste of them. It may be that you aquire another army in a couple of years (and you may as well wait until the majority of the new codexes are released), but you won't be sorry for starting with Marines.
They are charismatic and funky looking, and you can buy (or just read) the Index Astartes and other GW litrature to get ideas as to making a customised and original Chapter of your own devising.
Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?
I may just get Combat Patrol: Fire Superiority, but is that good value?
