Welcome to Librarium Online!
I started drawing when I was very young and have always appreciated art, I've also played video games since I was 3. I recently quit playing World of Warcraft and did some searches for new RPGs coming out I might like, and I came across Warhammer Online. From there I came across the tabletop game, I really like the miniatures. They appeal to me artistically and I'm interested in becoming a very good miniature painter. I might also start playing the game if I can find people near Detroit who play. I am very new to Warhammer and could use some experienced feedback.
These are the main armies that appeal to me artistically:
Orcs- I really like the Orc Warlord on Wyvern, Black Orcs, Ruglud's Armored Orcs, and Grimgore Ironhide especially.
Dwarves- The main miniatures that stick out to me are Thorgrim Grudgebearer, Alrik Ranulfsson, Dwarf Warriors/Longbeards/Ironbreakers.
Tomb Kings- Really like Casket of Souls, Settra the Imperishable, Icon Bearer, Skeleton Warriors and Tomb Guard
Hordes of Chaos- Egrimm Van Horstman, Archaon, Chaos Warriors/Knights.
I've also been an offensive minded person in video games, mostly melee.
I've read that Dwarves are defensive units with limited movement, so that might turn me off. With that said I really like the character in the Dwarf models, and I really really like Thorgrim Grudgebearer.
Orcs (no Goblins) seem like they would fit my offensive melee playstyle, and I enjoy their models alot.
I've read that Tomb Kings are very hard to play correctly, although I don't know if their offensive/defensive/magical/melee.
I like the armor of the Hordes of Chaos, it appeals to me. I don't like the Daemonic units at all visually. I think Khorne would most fit my playstyle, but I fear I might find this army a bit boring.
I'd greatly appreciate any experienced feedback. Thanks alot
edit: Also, what is the best method of buying models? I assume ebay would be the cheapest, but is it best to buy regiment box sets? Plastic or Metal and why?

Hi and welcome to LO please remember to read the rules that can be found at the link at the top of the page. The best way to buy modles well without a doubt E-bay is the cheapest although i usually buy them direct from GW.
orcs are everything you want in a starting army, cool models, easy to paintfast and or well, easy to use, but most of all damn fun to use!
My first army was orcs and their still my favourite. Ive had uncoutable funny moments with animosity (orcs have to test for wether they start bashing each other up) and fanatics (who move randomly about the board dishing out mass damage). But if used well they can be awesomely deadly. Not to bag any other army, all have there pros and con's, but for an all in one orcs are the way to go.
p.s out of the armies you suggested. dwarves are the opposite of offensive. they are the most defensive army in the game. they move less than pretty much everything else in the game, but don't flee from combat very often.
The death of one is a tragedy, the death of a million is a statistic.
