I have been playing PnP RPG hames since the late 80s and recently moved to a new city. I have been aware or Warhammer for many years but never tried it. After locating my local game store I found that Warhammer (and other mini games) were the drug of choice. So after playing a great pickup game of WW1 dogfight action last week I decided to join them. I purchased a copy of the 40k rulebook to get a feel for the system (the lore here is waayyy better than I expected for a tactical game).
I do not own a single Warhammer figure and have never painted a mini in my life...yet. It looks like there is a starter set for 40k that seems to be a pretty god buy that I'll probably pick up tonight to start messing around with. Also looks like a starter set is coming out for Warhammer so I'll probably give that a try too (they are each roughly the price of a PnP rulebook and I can always use the minis).
Anyway I am brand-spanking new to Warhammer (and non-prpainted mini games in general) so I am looking forward to learning.
Well the guy at the game store was really helpful. When I expressed interest in 40k he spent about an hour and a half explaining all the armies to me. I got the starter set and some paint and they told me to come on Saturday and they would get me started.
So my first brush with the commnity was great.
Well looks like I have a bunch of gluing and painting to do
