Ok the Vader vs Gandalf thread got way more attention than I thought it would. So here's a new Star Wars LOTR match up.
Ewoks vs Hobits. Let's say ten on ten in gladiatorial combat. No special training on either side, just run of the mill hobits and run of the mill Ewoks. They will be similarly equiped as far as weapons and such.
And with that, take it away...

Tough one. Hobbits fight with swords and ewoks with spears. Is the swords magical in any way? But i'll actually say that the ewoks wins, they did manage to capture Leia, Luke, Han and the robots altogether.
But i'm honestly not too sure about it.
to be honest this would have to be a tie.
The ewoks fought and won against the empire, with little more than spears rocks and giant logs, against futuristic AT-TEs, fully armed stormtroopers, and about 3 more platoons to back those up its incredible to me.
however, Sam and Frotto making it all the way from the shire to mount doom (with some assistance) and be able to fight off God knows how many orcs along the way! and lets not forget Merry and Pippin, the way they led the Ents on to war against isengard.
in short, hobbits have the brains, ewoks have the brutality (or brutality of some sort).
There are three kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who cannot.
I would have to say rather that it is the Ewoks with the brains. They set up carefully laid traps and ambushes to make the most of their weapons. A frontal charge against the Empire wouldn't work.
Merry and Pippin are the frontal-charge types, and Sam and Frodo... they're just insanely rash. So I would say that the Hobbits found themselves doing more arm-work. Of course, if you noticed, the Hobbits always wound up getting help from elsewhere. They didn't exactly convince the Ents to go to war. The Ents decided against going to war, until Treebeard saw for himself the destruction wrought not by Sauran, but by Saruman. Therefore, the Ewoks would win. They would be ready to fight, they would have innate skill in doing so, they would have more sophisticated tactics, and frankly- they're braver. I would put my money on the ewoks killing off the entire Shire in under 10 minutes, with a single well placed ambush. You can even let the hobits have their shiny swords and handful of bows and arrows. The ewoks would still win just because they react faster.Bravery: Ewoks edge it out slightly- they never faltered, where as the Hobbits can only be counted on to "surprise you" with their bravery.
Intelligence: once again, Ewoks edge it out. Those were carefully laid ambushes, with communication and a strategy that involved bait-and-switch, leading the Empire away with their main force so that they could sneak themselves into a position around the command center.
Raw Strength: I go for the Hobbits on this one. They're a bit bigger, and they are seen tackling Aragorn or Boromir in the films.
Weaponry: again, the Hobbits edge it out just slightly, as they are using iron-age weapons, while the ewoks are still using primitive wood and stone weapons.
However, you said that they are given equal weaponry, so this point is moot.
Initiative: if you notice, the Ewoks go to war immediately. They hobbits of the Shire do not rally in force until the last chapter or two of the Return of the King (last book). They sit out the entire war, and do nothing, even though it is clear that war is all around them.
Lifestyle: The ewoks are tribal, and don't seem to have any agriculture. Most likely, they are hunters and gathers, meaning that their weak starve, and they are skilled with their weapons and team-tactics, to bring down more/larger prey. The hobbits really just eat, drink, and smoke. Considering that you said "no special training," the Ewoks take the cake here. If you remember, Aragorn and Boromir taught the Hobbits to fight.
Oh yeah- did I also mention Cuddliness? Really, who would EVER want to kill an ewok?
I rest my case. Ewoks win.
As far as I see, Sam and Frodo and Merry and Pippin are rather exceptional hobbits, far from the norm. Whereas most of the Ewoks that we see end up going toe-to-toe with the Empire's finest and beating the pants off them.
Ewoks all the way!
Ewoks, they ruined starwars even more than Hayden "Whiny & Cardboard" Christensen.
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The Dutch Legion
The most recent 3 movies were pretty bad. However, if we're including them in the series then I would like to point out that JarJar Binks ruined Starwars.
The Ewoks fill a similar frame as the Jawas. They really aren't there for comic relief. They are in a limited role, but not in the same context as JarJar.
The new movies are trash, simply because Lucas sat down with his two teenage daughters and asked them what they would like to see in a movie. We were SO close to seeing the Backstreet Boys cameo in those films, but Lucas couldn't find an appropriate place to fit them in. Lucas is a visionary, but his execution is actually pretty shoddy, and even his visions are quite hit or miss.
The Hobbits are pleasant folk who like smoking, eating and brewing ale. Nothing wrong with that in the slightest.
Unfortunatly they would get a kicking from a group of Ewoks.
Ewoks would win with a special exception to Samwise who may well take down one or two of the furry critters with a cry of "I'll have you!"
Of course in a ten vs ten cooking contest the Hobbits win every time!.

hmm... hobbits are good... they drove sharky outta the shire but ewoks are funny and savage...
due to the fact that all the hobbits died from lung cancer /overeating /alcohol poisoning (tick all that apply) before the fight the EWOKS win!
But we haven't really seen Ewoks cooking, they might make the greatest food ever.
For sure, they win in combat and in pure cuddliness
