I was thinking, armies like space marines have Dark angels, black templars, space pups, and blood angels as seperate books and seperate models. I was thinking it may be worth while to add these sub forums to the marine forum. It just saves players that only play a sub codex having to go through stuff that doesn't matter to them.
Vampire Counts Progress Log [W:2 D:1 L:1]
The problem with this is it becomes a lot of forums, too many is a bad thing. There are many things like further exploding forums but ultimately, it comes down to being they are still a space marine army. As LO is a generic forum, we cannot accommodate a forum for every army - it would be too much. So, they get put into the generic type classes.
That said, I am leaning towards Kuffy on this one. Too many forums can tend to get daunting and annoying to check and moderate.
I don't think it's necessary; the only army that has that many "sub" armies is Space Marines, and each force is similar enough in composition and stats/rules that there really is no need to have separate subforums for each. I don't think there are enough players of each sub-codex to really warrant a whole new subforum (from the POV of a forum member surfing the forums); you'll just create a whole bunch of subforums that are less often used instead of the one subforum that's quite active right now.
All you really have to do is specify which codex you're using in your post, and everyone knows then what you're talking about and what's different from the main codex. They aren't really that different to eachother, in my book.
how about optional categories? Like in general hobby discussion (only those are mandatory). Then if your thread was just about BA it would have a red BA tag next to it
That could be a cool option, but I'm still not convinced it'd be necessary. The vast majority of threads in the Space Marines forum either encompass all of the Marine codices, or are so specific that you don't need a tag for it (e.g., 'Need help with Deathwing'). I've never personally had any trouble navigating through the threads to see which would apply to my own army.
The generic ones could have no tag, that's why I'd set them as optional. They can be colour coded like red for BA and green for DA etc, that way uber lazy people who are only interested in one type of SM wouldn't even have to read the thread titles, they could just look for the colours
But since I never go into SM it doesn't matter to me one way or another, just letting you guys know it's an option
I think Sammy's idea is a good one- it would also highlight to players of less commonly played codices where a fellow players may need help. Again, you would'nt want to overdo it with the options though,. I think its a very good idea from Sammy.
