Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've gone back and looked through some of my old social groups, and it just struck me that these are, in fact, a reasonably good idea. It's generally not a good idea to start a thread somewhere (with the exception of Clubs & Clans, but that's not being used as much anymore) just for the sake of connecting with other people on LO who share common interests.
The social groups are perfect for this, and they're much better laid out than they used to be. I like them a lot now, in fact.
I was wondering if there was a way to set it so that any activity in a social group could be fed to the user CP, or possibly just a notification? Many people join a social group then don't look at it ever again, and that defeats the purpose, I think.
I just think this would be a cool way to continue to expand LO's community, so wanted to share my thoughts on it.
the only think I can think of right now is the sidebar block on the forum index which showes the latest discussions
the sidebar works. You see the latest threads and can join to participate in the discussions. I also added the less active forums to the sidebar and I've seen a little increase. I thougt you could follow the topics in the social groups like you follow any other topics but maybe Im wrong
We need to promote social groups a little bit more; perhaps an announcement of some sort could work, reintroducing them, putting them in the spotlight a little bit.
I always thought you could subscribe to the social groups... but maybe that was only under the old forum system? No, it still seems you can.
I've got a list of the ones I'm subscribed to in my control panel... In descending order, it lists New Subscribed Threads, Subscribed Forums and then the Subscribed Groups.
Admittedly it's a fair way down the page and I do sometimes overlook it, but I thought the system worked fairly well. Just needs people to be a little more active, I guess, which is sometimes difficult to do.
I think activity would be less of an issue as long as a couple people start using them more, getting others into it. I think a lot of people would use them if they knew they existed or they were in an easier to access spot (or, put more into the spotlight).
we could make a "advertise your group" forum people could link to their groups
