I think it would be a good idea if there were regular competitions and winners were awarded rep and, on occasions, medals. By regular, I mean once every two months, and the themes should be varied from painting to tutorials. Having regular competitions will appeal to the natural competitive nature of many gamers, and it will provide a lot more interesting content resulting from the increased effort to win.
Having all the awards up for grabs at one time annually is not a good idea because people are unlikely to spend a whole year chasing one award. However, if it is one award at a time, and people work towards it for a couple months at a time, a lot more people will work for it. These hypothetical competitions should be placed in a new category under "general announcements" and should also be linked to their relevant groups i.e. painting, modeling ect
The overall intention is to inspire and encourage people to post more pictures and provide more helpful information for all of us here at Librarium
what do you think?
I think it sounds like a really good idea but the question is how to go about setting something like that up.
Its up to the administrators. This thread is to express interest and discuss the idea of more frequent competitions. The only real issues as far as I see it, is that not enough people will enter unless; there is a section dedicated specifically to competitions (so that it is in plain sight); and that the prizes offer enough incentive to enter. I know that a lot of people like building rep, so perhaps the reward could be an appropriate number of rep points.
I definitely like the idea of having competitions for other things like tutorials or batreps. The best painters/modelers around here tend to be fairly consistent, but putting together tutorials, tactica, and batreps isn't just bragging rights, but also helps the community.
regular competitions would also pruduce a higher standard these reports and tutorials. Also scenery and diorama's, the more category's the better. And it would help the community and encourage more involvement from members
Again, I think it could be a good idea, but I also think you'd have to have a wide range of competition categories so that those who aren't in to painting or rules can still take part.
Maybe a few more ideas like;
- Create a battle scenario (for those really in to their rules)
- Art competition (drawings or sketches or paintings or digital artworks or whatever, could all just be lumped in together or could have separate categories?)
I think painting, scenery, battle reports, tutorials have already been covered, but are also good ideas!
Just another thought - if you had enough categories, and enough organisation, would it be a good idea to stagger competitions and have about 2 a month? Say a painting comp can start on the 1st of the month, and finish at the end, but half-way through the same month you start a battle report competition or something, which ends half way through the next month - that way there's always something going on, and always something different, and it might encourage people to be more active.
It might also lead to competition burn-out though, with people trying to do too much at once. Maybe the once a month thing is a better idea.
I think you'd see too much burnout running two at a time. Plus, someone needs to be setting these up and maintaining each competition, so having too many going on puts a lot of workload on the organizers.
It could start out slow and then build up to that. but I do think that an important part of it is making it well known that a competition is underway. I have overlooked a heap of comps before I had a chance to enter them, thats why I think that a section dedicated to competitions would be a good idea
Your poll is just a week or two too early. We already have some big plans in the works for multiple compeitions! I'm glad to see all votes have been a yes. The more ideas you guys give us for competitions the more we can hold, so keep those ideas coming!
