Taken from the locked thread 'ok, some body closed my thread for no reason... '
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------I'm just curious as to if there is some sort of size restriction dominating the LO servers. Because unless that's the case, the only other explanation I can think of for why a thread would be locked due to being in the wrong forum would be 'website tidiness'.Originally Posted by King Ulrik Flamebeard
Now, admitably, all the new dwarf info is probably common knowledge at this point, and maybe the thread was unneccessarily created, but I can't reasonably find an explanation why a dwarf related rumor topic couldn't be in a dwarf subforum.
Similarly, if I wanted to know Wood Elf paint schemes that are used by Wood Elf players, I'm going to post in the Wood Elf subforum, not the painting/conversion section. I don't want random 40K marine player to give me advice on how he would paint Glade Guard if he played Fantasy. Or worse, returning to LO to see if my thread has recieved any replies, only to find that it's been buried and forgotten by a multitude of general painting tip/question threads. This is the same reason we have sub-forums for army lists under each army.
Anyway, that's my two bits.
Oh, one other thing. Sometimes calling a supervisor stupid is a good thing. A VERY good thing. Just ask any NCO who's had to "mentor" a newly commissioned Lieutenant.
Website Tidyness is one of the things that keep a forum from plunging into chaos.
Simple, it creates numerous threads for the same thing in different places. We already have a thread for the rumours and it has grown large enough - so what would be the point of starting anohter just so we can all go "We know, look here <link>" ? Not only does it keep it tidy but reduces the need for these threads to endlessly repeat themselves.
Now, if the thread was giving more information or a review of the book or something then of course it would have been kept open and in the correct forum. It was not, and if a simple search had been done then the member could have had their say and posted what they know in the thread. They know something, guess what? So does everyone else but we knew when it was a rumour.
As to asking for tips on painting a specific army in the army forum - that kinda invalidates the painting forum does it not? Why post there at all when all you want is comments off people who play your army - and get the lovely "Ooo...purty" comments from? What would be the point of having a forum for painting if this was the case? There is nothing wrong asking about other players schemes but it's when people start to give full blown articles or details on how they did their army etc. That is painting stuff and should remain as such. Then why don't we cater to this request and create a subforum for; Painting, Modelling, Fluff, Stories, artwork etc for each and every army? Make it much simpler for you all. This is the same reason we have sub-forums for army lists under each army.
Oh and calling a Supervisor IRL stupid may be good but on here, I am here to look after and watch over the forums - calling me stupid is not a good way to show how much my hard work and spare time I put into making this site run as smoothly as I am able - is welcomed.
