Welcome to Librarium Online!
Wow there are so many threads around this forum at the moment. Sorry about creating another one.
They are just a few ideas that would make LO just a little bit more convenient to use:
1) Automatic Name: As you can see many people, including me often put our name at the end of our messages. It would be very useful if, in the profile you could check a box which automatically put a line after your post and your name. I know we have signatures but that leaves a line, and the name just gets confused with pictures and quotes etc.
2) Automatic Formatting: You can also see that some like using the typewriting font for their posts, some like doing them a certain colour etc. If there was a function in your options where you could set a default font or colour for all of your posts rather than clicking or typing it every time.
3) Pop-Ups: Some people who are new do not understand some abbreviations, it would be very useful if certain ones were underlined automatically and when you hover your mouse over them a message tells them the full meaning. For instance, some do not know what 'IMO' means, but they could see a dotted line under it, and if they hold their mouse over it would say 'In My Opinion'.
^ If an Admin is interested with the pop-up script I will send it to them in HTML, I have prepared it.
"Well... that hurt" - Vampire Jon Skellan (Mannfred's right hand man) after being beaten up, falling down an underground waterfall and being impaled by a stalactite.
Those sound like smashing ideas! ^_^ Those sure would be useful!
"Fight for justice, not revenge."
FoW Gepanzerte Panzergrenadiers who took a wrong turn at Tunisia and magically appeared in Normandy as Panzer Lehr: Wins: 11 Losses: 8
I may not be an Admin, but could you send that HTML to me?
I'm Learning some HTML codeing as part of my 3D Gaming Animation course and wanted to see if I can manipulate it for my own ends... >.>
Yes those are interesting ideas, Hex, and thanks for suggesting them. At the risk of sounding like a wet blanket (whatever a wet blanket actually sounds like) I'm not sure that the software (vBulletin) supports the top two (but I will ask Blackhat later, as he is more up to speed on the various plug-ins).
The third option - regarding a popup/tooltip(?) for abreviations is a good idea technically, but two things occur to me. (1) is that total n00bs would not know that the option existed (lets face it - how many of them read the n00bs handbook?) so they would still just sit there looking blank; and (2) there would be a list behind the scenes, that SOMEONE would have to maintain reliably. Oh and sometimes abreviations can be ambiguous, Today some member quoted something to do with 'DP' on anaother thread. Now as it happens, that was a reference to some comment that member DP Epsilion had made a few posts earlier in the thread. However, it could also have been a reference to a well known and respected member named DarkPrincess, as this is a nickname some of us use for her. And in fact of course neither explanation would have come up if the tooltip gadget was on the forum, leading to several complaints that it is broken or inadequate. Oh yes it would.
Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?
im sure if you noticed a dotted line, it would not be that miraculous for the user to try to scroll over it. i don't think you'd need to worry about noobs not realizing it. not really something that requires a stroke of genius
