I noticed this a while ago, and it seemed a bit strange, then I thought it went away, but when I was browsing through the fiction forum just before, it reared its ugly head again. I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes instead of an apostrophe, that is -> ' <- for those of you who don't know, it comes up with weird symbols, like so - ‘ and ’ .
I'm not sure whether this is an ongoing thing (I doubt it) but it certainly seems to have taken effect in some older threads, namely around the fiction forum (which makes it increasingly hard to read speech  ). I'll link you to a thread that is plagued with it, so you can see for yourself - http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...-fallen-2.html
It could just be my computer or browser or something, I'm not sure, so does anyone else have this problem? If so, perhaps it should be looked into. It's not particularly urgent however, I just thought I'd bring it up.
Does it happen to you currently? I've noticed it, but only in threads that are older than when we had the database migration. It has to do with a swap of character sets when we moved to the newer database server.
So long as it's contained to older threads, I see no big issue. I've updated the threads I've seen that are still commonly trafficked, like articles and what not, but I have yet to see it occur in newly created threads.
Its been an issue for years with submitting things on websites.
It occurs when people directly copy and paste from word to the submission form, my guess is that its some incorrect translation of the character code.
If you want to avoid the error, copy and paste the text from word to notepad, save the notepad, close it, re-open the document in notepad and copy and paste from the notepad document to the submission form.
"It fits like clothes made out of wasps!"
Ok, thanks for the tip. I have never encountered the problem with my own posts, but I have seen it around the forum. I think it even did it to some user's names that had apostrophes in them at the server change, although I may be wrong. Perhaps it was just in some of the articles (like the rules) when I name was mentioned, and had an apostrophe after it, but if so I think that's been fixed.
