I mostly play against DE and Beast of Chaos, and some Empire and O&G. So some choices came with that in mind.
I chose for the no wizards approach, mainly as a surprise for my opponents.
The Oldblood is better in fighting so thats where I want him asap. That's why I made a Scar-Vet General as he will move up slowly and thus give more units benefit from it's Ld. Like the sallies and skink screen.
I placed the Bsb in the Krox unit, so they got a better Ld, and with the magic banner they can surprise players with the extra D6" move. It does make him a bit more vulnerable to shooting but with a 2+ save he shouldn't complain...
What do you guys think of this list?
hmm... let's see here...
although I'm going by memory here but i swear that the General must be the model with the highest LD, points value and rank (in this case it's his Lord Entry)
the Shield of the Mirrored Pool is only good against Magic Missiles. let's face it, how many time is your general going to get hit by a magic missile when he is hidden in a nice big unit of saurus? my annswer would be, steadfastly, no.
it's best to drop that Shield and swap it over for the Maiming one, or even better the Enchanted Shield!
when combined together, this would give your Oldblood a mighty 1+AS!
this is a different setup...
but it is best to give him the GW for those pesky chariots and Knights. but other wise this guy is a good, alternative setup for the JSoD
giving the third Scar-Vet the General title isn't going to work as i already said, it's best to sawp him out for a Skink Priest scroll caddy for thos few annoying spells that could come through, as well as to free up some point for those vital areas in your army.
as tempting as it may be, I'd say no to this setup. Skinks are no way any good a CC, leave that to the Saurus
this may be a ble to provide a good screen, but we are talking about a small 5+ save, 6+ against most missile weapons. it's best to keep these guys as screens and march blockers here.
other than the above, i see that it's a good solid list here, though Sacred Host lists are always quite pricey in points.
Thanks for the reply but I do got some countersIt only says that the character with the highest Ld must be the general, and scar-vets and oldblood got the same Ld so I can pick imo.I'm sorry for burying you bone in the back yard, but this guy MUST be your General here.
The Shield of the Mirrored Pool... yes that was a point of doubt for me too... It's nice but once the opponent knows you've got it, it will target other units most likely. Also magic missles on a cav unit doesn't do that much damage, usually.
But still, only 1 magic missile on the unit in the game will protect them for a bit. Item can be traded for other stuff.
The JSOD, I took the sword of striking so I would hit and wound on a 2+ mostly against T3 units. ;Y Great against elfs hehe. But it's true for the chariot or big beasties...
The scar-vet general... Well the point of this army is not to have a wizard at all so if he can't be the general I'll probably exchange him with the oldblood. But I still want to know where it is written in the holy BRB that my scar-vet can't be the general.
The skinks... Where did you get the impression that they are for CC? No way am I going to use them for that, cause as you said they are no way any good there. They are just a big screen and I bought some extra from left over points. So far I know you can put characters in any unit you want, even if they are mounted or not. Except that they can't join monsters, but kroxigor don't fall under that rule imo.I'm sorry to say this but, no. you can't have the BSB join this unit, it is illegal to do so. keep him in the Saurus Cavalry unit below.
The Sun Standard... hmm well it does make the unit high priced but just that bit more difficult to shoot down, and as they are few in numbers thats what I want...
I'm going to search the rules when I get the chance for the BSB and General thing but if you know the pages I would appreciate it if you could tell them to me... thanks for the comments!
I reread the rules and for the general, it only says that the character with the highest Ld must be the general. If more characters have the same highest Ld than pick one and announce it to the opponent at the start of the battle. BRB page 82.
As for the character with the BS joining the kroxigor...
The character can join a friendly unit of troops - infantry, cavalry, unit of chariots or a war machine's crew, but never a monster, single chariot, unit of flyers or another character. BRB page 72.
It also doesn't say that it matters if the character is mounted or not, so in effect a character on mount can join a unit on foot.
Now we need to know if a kroxigor falls under infantry or monster.
On page 38 of the BRB, it says that monsters always fight individually. So kroxigors are counted as infantry, and can be joined by a mounted BSB. :C
So my setup is legal
I might swap the Shield of the Mirrored Pool for some more skinks and take 2 smaller units as screens but I don't know... The shield might be really handy...
Ow and the Shield of the Mirrored Pool is bearer and unit he's with... So it's a bit better than what you think.
And if you fail that special save, you risk him getting wounded. Think about it. He's the one behind that magic shield in the first place!
That Kroxigor/BSB thing is wierd and I still don't think it could be done, even though I have not played a game of WHFB in a while ^_^
Maybe we should ask Rork to take a look at it... 0:
As for the shield... I might drop it for the enchanted shield and a kroxigor ancient so if my BSB gets challenged the krox can take the fight ;Y
And there is only the same risk for the oldblood as any character in a small unit. Magic missle always hit units never a character inside the unit (unless ofcourse there are less then 5 models).
And why people didn't come up with it before? Well I can only guess... Also if you put a character inside the kroxigors then they can't charge through skinks anymore, or can they?
The only thing I can find about characters and unit special rules is what is on page 78 of the BRB but that's under Psychology, which says that a character is part of the unit in all respects. So if the character also gets the charge-through-skinks-rule than it's kinda funny
Again a nice question for Rork hehe...
