Stegadon War Spear
Amulet of Itzl
4x10 Skink Skirmishers
5 Ancient Stegadons. Anything they can combo charge will die. Also engine of the gods could mess people up too, not to mention 3 lvl3 casters with power stones. But really, is this army practical to use? People probably wouldn't want to play against it, but I can see cunlines messing it up and probably lots of rank and file armies too.
What do you think?
Potential flaws: One EotG's ability will be wasted till you can get close to something, unless your doing two shields. Your generating 2, 2, 2 out of heavens entirely possible your magic phase will have no attack capabilities. If your oppenent can destroy or chase off your skinks you'll lack units to control the board / protect vs calvary coming behind you. Lore of Metal if they can get something off welcome to a very bad day for one of your steggies. Other than that just units with very high static combat resolution, Stubborn 6 on 3 dice is still good but its still only stubborn 6.
Daemons of Slannesh - leadership based armies, and Warriors of Choas - leadership based armies would probably be bad news.
Wood Elves - Would prolly end up coming down to terrain features and your magic spell vs there shooting capabilities.
Fliers - I would gladly throw some fliers at stegadons with the hopes of assassinating the skink priest.
Lizardmen - Slann w 20 TG and scar vet if you can't get a combo charge its going to be messy. Carnosaurs. Statuette of spite.
Anything with S7 would be pretty scary.
Orc magic weapon +1 str (and maybe attack dont remember exactly) for every enemy character in 12 or 24 inches. Headbutt.
Lead belchers maybe?
And the big one .... drum roll please .... Defending an obstacle.
Hard to say really. I think any army with speed or heavy magic defense could be hard. If they get the charge, stegadons can't really do much with there 3 attacks in combat. I also agree that people may not be too inclined to play you. The one change I would suggest is to make the chief a BSB. I would also change out a power stone for the plaque of tepok on one of the priests. And maybe the diadem of power on another.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
I think you'll do fine but lose several friends in the process. You would really want to consider a bsb (maybe on an ancient?) because I have failed stubborn 6 and 7 several times, even with the bsb. You'll want to either combo charge or stagger if the enemy is faster than you. I think having the diadem and switching one Engine to BSB is worth the cost. Having 6-8 dispel dice and a scroll is better than having extra engines (although the engines can be nasty) Your offensive magic is going to be iffy at best, because Heavens is not that offensive. The giant blowpipes can be very good (especially with second sign or reroll 1's)
Anything with decent shooting is going to be heinous and may stick it to you, but you're hoping you only lose crew and can make 5+ward saves by taking 1 Engine, much less 3.

Would it be more viable with 3 chiefs on stegadons and only 1 engine of the gods?

I've had mediocre success with the giant blowpipes and usually you'd want your stegs charging stuff, not standing back and taking a charge to shoot and stand and shoot. (sometimes they kill entire units, sometimes they don't do a wound - very hit or miss, and I think the ancient should be supportive of the saurus or combo charging with another steg to be useful, not necessarily shooting.)
Despite the price upgrade and the terrible character on top, the Engines are much more damaging and useful in and out of combat. With 2-3 you can generate 5+wards for most of the army from shooting and even get some spells off (easier to cast Heavens) and then really burn some people with burning alignment.

Maybe to increase the likelyhood that people will actually play you, drop one of the engines (two would still be very effective) and pick up a couple of units of kroxigors or something (fits well with the theme of no saurus)
Why did the chicken cross the road?
For the greater good.
Is an anchient steg really core now? Because if you had 5 special or 5 rare I would imagine you would be over for the 2250 point rare or special limit?. Unless, they made them special and rare!? IM LOST!
Hhmm Intertesting though for sure. I hope I get to play a steg list like this soon.

you need to have a look at the new book.
Ancients are better than the regular steg. Ancients are rare. Any steg can be taken as a mount and it doesn't count against your rare choices. So most stegs actually are placed with characters, not their selected organization slots.
Thats awsome, I cant wait for my friend to pick up the new book! Steg as a mount for a hero or lord without it counting towards rare or special choice sounds awsome!
