2000 point, Magic Heavy for Friendly games.

    Heya,

I've drafted up a Magic Heavy list for friendly games against Dwarves and Tomb Kings.

    At present it stands at

    Slann Mage-Priest
    Focus of Mystery
    The Focused Rumination
    Higher State of Consciousness
Cupped Hands of the Old Ones
    Divine Plaque of Protection
    Battle Standard
    Standard of Discipline
    490

    2 x 10 Skink Skirmisher
    70

    140

    2 x 20 Saurus Warriors

    Saurus Champion
    Musician
    Standard Bearer
    250

    500

    20 Temple Guard

    Revered Guardian
    Musician
    Standard Bearer
    395

    2 x 5 Chameleon Skinks

    60

    120

    2 x Hunting Pack

    2 x Salamander
    8 x Handler
    160

    320

    TOTAL - 1965

Now I'm damn sure this list needs some tweeking but I'm new to fantasy, so I can only hope someone can give me some pointers.

    Thanks.

ps. just noticed I put the wrong size prefix... my bad

EDITED, corrected with help from SirKently and Noma, I've got a few points spare, I'll probably bung them on some magic Items for the Temple Guard, Ironcurse Icon for starters)

You need a major redo here. First off, you don't have enough core to meet the 25% minimum. You need to have 500 points worth. Your rare choices are over the 500 point limit. Monster heavy is fine for fun games if the point limit is at least 2500. At 2k, I would leave the stegs at home and concentrate more on warriors, and salamders.

I will be looking for the revision,

I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.

    Comments below...

    Slann Mage-Priest
    Focus of Mystery
    The Focused Rumination
    Higher State of Consciousness
Cupped Hands of the Old Ones
    Divine Plaque of Protection
    Battle Standard
    475

If your not running a temple guard bunker, and you intend to run him solo take shadow magic.

    Skink Priest
    Plaque of Tepok
    Engine of the Gods
    370

It's a rather expensive choice at 2k pts, I agree with SirKently here, drop it and save the points for a unit of saurus warriors. Second, the plaque won't come in handy too often because most of your PD will be going into your slann's spells. The priest will hardly get off 1 spell let alone a second or third.

    Skink Chief
    Venom of the Firefly Frog
    Javelins
    Light Armour
    Shield
    Ironcurse Icon
    82

    Skink Chief
    Sword of Battle
    Javelins
    Light Armour
    Shield
    87

I don't really like skink chief's all that much, I would drop them and use the points for more units. Characters won't win you games, sure they help, but combat troops ultimately win it for you in the end.

    4 x 10 Skink Skirmisher
    70

    280

    20 Skinks
    Musician
    Standard Bearer
    -attached to Skink Chief
    114

    20 Skinks
    Musician
    Standard Bearer
    -attached to Skink Chief
    114

You need some meat to your army, no temple guard or saurus does not bode well for you when CC arises. Grab 2 large units of saurus warriors to bolster your offense and army value, they're one of the best core choices in the game, not to mention reasonably cheap with a nice stat line.

    2 x 5 Chameleon Skinks
    Stalker
    66

    132

Drop the stalkers, not worth the points for the additional attacks.

    2 x Hunting Pack
    2 x Salamander
    8 x Handler
    160

    320

    Nice

The list is pretty good, but lacks offense, skinks are good, but more often than not they won't get the job done.

Noma said everything I would say. Warriors and salamanders plus the slann are our mainstays. They are what you build the army around.
