Alright I'm looking for some opinions on what I might wanna try with a 1000pt army of lizardmen.
I currently play against Vampires, Dwarves, Ogres, Bretonian, Empire, and Tomb Kings.
Here is my current army list:
Saurus Scar Veteran with Amulet of the Jaguar, Great Weapon, Shield, Light Armor.
Skink Priest upgraded to level 2.
Two groups of 10 Saurus Warriors with Standard and Musician.
One group of 8 Saurus Cavalry with Standard and Musician.
Two groups of 12 skink upgraded to scouts, both using blowpipes.
I then add in different upgrades depending on the army I'm facing, but generally I take some sort of spawning for one of my units (one more than one depending on cost).
I am currently thinking about adding Kroxigor or a Stegadon to my army list at the cost of Some (or all) of my Cavalry, and/or some skinks. I'm not a big fan of Terradons, so I don't think I will ever consider those... just dislike the model.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
you need bigger units of saurus atm they are just easy victory points units of 10 do squat
your setup on the scar vet is confusing why is he configured like that? you already got machin n mage hunters in the form of skinks all he is doing is hanging a big target sign round his neck, give him more defensive items and stick him i a nice big block of saurus
8 cav is overkill 5 or 6 will do the same job for cheaper and lose the standard again it's just giving away precious victory points as our cav are flankers they don't charge alone unless in high numbers (15+) you bonus for banners should come from a saurus unit
normal skinks are nice but i would drop one or both for some chamo skinks these lil buggers while expensive will get the job done much better and are way harder to kill
with your skinks scouting the main str of a kroxigor is gone so i would go with a stegadon not only is it a ciool model it's rules rock, consider putting a skink cheif with spear and spawning of sotek on there he is cheap...ish and will give the steg more cc killiness which is muchmore useful than a thrower shot that stops him from marching and will prob only hit once per game + it looks so cool having the lil guy ride just don't give him armour as mounting him on the steg provides a 2+ save which can't be improved

Well first off i would merge the two groups of saurus together to make a solid block of 20, and save point of the command, drop the cavalry to 5 or 6 models and loose the command as well, and drop the 2 units of skinks to 10 men squads, there a bit easier to scout with.
For your skinks I would equip one of them, or both of them with shield and javalins, when you can get close to a warmachine it's better to charge it than shoot at it, and the shields will help you last longer and actually win the combat.
The cavalry are just there to take away ranks and such, so don't need a command, a musician might be handy for rallying, but that's about it.
I find when using a nikey saurus it's good to move him up fast and have him join units of skinks to get a look out sir from cannons, and protection from missile fire. I like to give him the enchanted shield and mark of quetzle along with what you have, 2+ save against shooting is really sweet, this way you can throw him in front of archers and they will have a hard time trying to scratch him.
for your rare unit I would go with salamanders instead of a stegadon, they are much better at shooting, can take away ranks since they are monsters and handlers (although a lot of people tend to disagree and say they don't count as monsters and handler on this site), if you have at least 2 in a unit. I like to have my nikey lord in the unit for some extra hitting power when they charge, makes them real nasty.
Alright thanks for your suggestions so far... I'll just explain a few things about my current setup:
One solid unit of 20 sounds good, but I find it makes it too easy for my opponent to gain a flank on me a remove all my ranks because I only have 1 large unit and a bunch of scouts and whatnot... I'm generally outnumbered unit-wise even with two small units of 10.
I have been using my cavalry as a actually frontal unit against some of my opponents to tie them up, and they generally do quite well considering they are generally outranked by quite a bit, and sometimes outnumbered. They get so many attacks however, and basically always get the charge.
The skinks are used to killing anything I think should be killed, be it warmachines (which I face little of) or just dwindling my opponent's ranks down before my warriors arrive. I find blowpipes work better for this purpose because of the extra shots and range... I just have my skinks run circles around my opponent's units.
My Veteran is set up the way he is to mess with my opponent, he can go after warmachines or lone wizards, and I even sometimes charge in alone into a unit. After doing his damage he simply flees and cannot be caught. He also joins the combat my warriors engage in when he can for extra support. Using him to bash chariots is also amusing (especially the Black Coach of the Vampires).
I have considered using salamanders, and am not totally decided on that yet. However I'm not a huge fan of the model, and looks play a lot into what I tend to pick.
If I were to take kroxigor I would be sure to keep them covered against range when I have to (I don't face a great deal of shooting).
Chameleons have been looking pretty cool to me as well, and I may very well take one unit of those guys over two units of skinks.
Your Skink Chief idea for the stegadon sounds pretty cool. I really like the Skink Chief but have found him to be kinda useless to me so far.
