Hi, my friend is a really bad warhammer player to win he has to use a harsh list and now i cant beat him can anyone give me some advice on which units will help me beat him along with some tactics.
We usually play 2250 and he uses 4 ratling guns, 20 jezzals, 3 warlock engs, a warp lighting cannon and other big blocks of slaves and clanrats. (
Fear causing units (Kroxigors, Salamanders)
Large Blocks of saurs
Fast movement (Cold One Riders, Terradon, Salamanders, Carnosaur)
Magic Defense (Slann, Skink Priests)
Try to charge the jezzels early on to avoid being shot. Terradons and skinks are good for this.
Also try to charge the lightning cannon in the same fashion, as it HAS to flee.
Get the flank. The idea here is to remove his rank bonus and, therefore, he leadership bonus.
Even though he can shoot into combat, you can still set up a screen to block his line of sight (at least from most the army, the lightning cannon is a different bird).
A slann grants great magic defense and and offense. He will also draw fire. If you give him the 2+ ward save plaque his will be nearly untouchable, and your blocks and other units will have less to worry about. He can also blast units as they approach, making it easier on your saurs. When he gets close enough, send some magic missiles into the jezzels if they are still a problem. If the lightning cannon is still causing problems you can try to do the same to it. Always give your slann the Battle Standard. The fear banner isn't a bad idea.
Don't neglect "shield of the old ones" spell. If a skink priest gets it, then cast it on a visible (by the enemy) target.
A carnosaur can usually auto-break an enemy in one round, especially if he hits the flank. This is true for Cold One Riders as well. And possibly true for Kroxigors.
That's about all you're getting out of me. Good luck.
Sorry, I meant "celestial shield". Spell #3 on Lore of the Heavens. Got mixed up there for a bit. Thanks for catching that.
Thanks alot for the advice i'll be sure to give it a go come friday
There's also that nifty wind wall thingeroo in the lore of life. I found that it really upsets shoosty armies. Then again, that would force you to bring a frog.
Yeah the howler wind would work great against ratling guns. Beware of Skaven magic as well, spells like plague can really hurt you, although they can also backfire which is fun to watch ^_^
Remember, to kill a horde army kill the core, I.E. the general. Then the rest will fall lilke weat.
Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee!
Also the "rain lord" spell from life lore can really mess up the jezzels.
