I got destroyed by Brettonians a while ago, and I have no idea how to stop all that cavalry. Anyone have any advice? BTW the game was played at 1000 points.
The Rep Thumb is to the left of my post, in case you didn't see it.
Your best bet will be skirmishers and use them to out manover him. Units of skinks with poisoned shots, and salamanders could be useful.
Any unit you have will have a hard time standing up to a full lance charge, so the best way to kill them in combat is make them charge skinks, flee and set up a flank counter charge with Kroxigor. Once flanked and pinned in combat, Bret lances loose all potential.
I find Kroxigors deal with knights excellently. You need to charge bait with skinks and flee to set up a flank charge as Kroxigors cannot take on a ranked up unit head on. 3 attacks each at 7 means the knights save is -4. Usually does the trick.
A slann is always good too but this obviously at 2k. Take plaque of Tepok and roll on lore of metal until you get Spirit of the Forge. You had best stick the Slann in a unit of temple guard and beef it up though. If you are using Lore of Metal, try and squeeze in Bane Head. Put it on the paladin army battle standard and use Rule of Burning Iron to one-shot the banner bearer.
My 1k list has 2 units of 3 krox, a unit of 3 sallies and a jaguar charmed scar vet with a great wep, never had problems with Brets before. My skink priest is lvl2 also and Uranons thunder bolt is always nice to get.
Your best bet is definately scouting skinks.
With poisoned attacks and in units of 10+ they can dish out lots of poisoned shots that potentially ignore the wounding phase.
The key is concentration. Use small units to force him into deploying first then place most of your skinks in the same spot.
One good round of shooting and he doesn't have his 9 knights anymore. Then take the other units on one by one.
Use terradons and salamanders for march blocking and harrying his flanks. Terradons can hit and run which is useful. If he doesn't charge his combat phase is fairly average to say the least.
Poison is your biggest friend here.
Knights are expensive and he WILL fail his armour saves eventually. Whatever is left can be mopped up by your own cavalry, kroxigors, saurus warriors etc.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!
